    245 width on 17" rims?

Currently have 235/45 on the sport 17" rims. Looking at a set of snow tires that are 245/45. Can I fit these without rubbing the wheel well?

    Thanks,

I dont know what ride height you are at but if its stock you will be fine. But as far as snow tires are concerned you want a smaller width.

Stock height, and I've read narrower is better, but I think this set would be a good deal.

I was slammed on 17inch sports with 245's and I was fine no rubbing at all. I think its because its a very high offset

On the above note, is anyone running a snow tire in 245 width, and can you give your impressions?

you should be fine. i've talked to DenverNoob who is running 18" wheels with 245/45 snow tires on stock sport suspension and doesn't have rubbing issues.

    Don't do it!

    Go 245/40/17, IMHO it's better.

For winter? I don't think so. Not only is he going to be severely limited in the choice of brands/models in that particular size, he's throwing away money for an inferior winter tire, compared to lets say 225/45-17 or even 215/50-17.

I'll do you one wider...I have Blizzack LM22's in 255/40R17 on my stock 17" sport rims with OEM ('02) sport suspension. No rubbing. I don't think you could fit anything wider than that though on the setup I have (maybe not even some 255 tires from different brands as sizes differ from brand to brand).

My driving impressons are that if you can go narrower...do it. In lay terms, generally speaking, Wide tire = less traction in winter snow/ice.
The only reason I got that wide of a tire is that I got the set for next to nothing with 95% tread so I figured what the hell. Are they better than All seasons in lesser widths...yes, but I would get the OEM isze if at all possible.

    My bad!

For snow tires you are better off with something narrower.

Re: 245 width on 17" rims?

obviously when you compare exact same model,

255 snow tires are more expensive than 215.
255 snow tires have less snow traction than 215.

if you only get a few snow, then I think 245/255 is ok.
if massive snowfall, I'd go for 215 as the purpose of snow tire is to have grippier traction for safety reason in snow.

Might hold off on the Yokohamas, see if I can find some Nokian Hakkas in 225.

Im running 245/35/19 P-Zero Nero M+S on ADR M-Classics with +35 offset and i was rubbing a bit on big bumps or loaded down but then i took out a screw on each fender liner (the one you can feel right under the top of the front fender) and I don't rub anymore

I do agree with this ..that narrow tires are better for snow but the P-Zero Nero M+S tires im running (245/35/19) are amazing in the snow (live in mammoth with over 600 inches of snow fall a year) and they are also amazing in the dry!! Just as good as my expensive Toyo Proxies T1R's in the dry! (the toyo's are a bit narrower tho... 235's)
