Over $1000 damage to the new Polaris Dragon. Hit a rock carving in an open field at ~20mph last Friday. Ski tried to go under the rock. Bent lower A-arm in half, crack middle supports on upper A-arm, sheared shock in 1/2 at the upper threads, cracked/broke plastic body behind shock tower (under clutch), ski bolt sheared through and ski is warped, carbide warped, bearing for lower a-arm in spindle needs replaced. Was able to bend the steering arm back straight. Spindle is fine minus one copper/brass sleeve/spacer. Sway bar is fine. Side panel is fine. Most all the hardware is fine. Did not hit the primary clutch (thank god). Had to ride it back to the truck for 5 miles in this condition. Jerry rigged the ski back on. I would have just lifted the ski up the whole way back but if the ski lifted off the ground and touched back down it flipped itself over and reversed itself. No bueno.
My buddy riding my polaris edge popped the trailing arm off, and bent 2 tie rods and bent some hardware. Had to do some work with a punch and hammer to get the trailing arm connection through the bulkhead straight again. About $120 worth of parts to fix.
Did get to do some climbing with the Dragon before she broke and I have to say that the track hooks up like crazy in the steep/deep. I was very impressed. Such an easy sled to ride.
4 of the 7 sleds in our group had severe damage on Friday. All in all an expensive day. 40" of base on snotel doesn't mean shit when it's not set up.
