Break Light on and loosing power steering fluid!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My break light just came on this morning that says check/replace break pads. My car is going in friday for inspection, am I okay to drive it until then, I put about 20 miles a day on it? I"m figuring around $100 for the pads and 2 hours or labor, am I assuming correctly?

I'm also leaking power steering fluid... can I check anything or just let my shop do it? Is this most likely a hose or something expensive?

you should be fine riding on those brakes until friday. Usually you have a little left before you hit metal, but don't wait too long on getting them changed.

It is the break light that means "break pads worn" I'm guessing at 60k miles I'll need them front and back.

Loosing PS fluid can be a few things. Worst would be the rack leaking (driver's side boot), which happened to me around 61k. Not a cheap fix unfortunately.

You can get by until Friday, but they'll fail you for the brake pads.

Re: Break Light on and loosing power steering fluid!

I think I'm just going to have them do the breaks, just dont' have time to do it now. Should I figure about 2 hours of labor for that?

Hoping the Power steering isn't a lot... figures things are snowballing right around xmas and my wife and I just put an offer on a new house last night!! Thougth I was going to have a $60 inspection, now I'm probably $300-$500 depending on the PS issue.
