Whats up everyone, i recently found a pretty sweet deal for an 2004 s4

Basically the dealer wants to charge me 18,500 for a 04 s4 with 53,XXX miles on it i called the dealer and they said the car has a clean title and the car was recently checked out at a local audi dealer and passed their inspection.

My question is.. what should i be looking for? at 50k i know audi recommends we do a check up, what about timing belt issues and coil packs? are these all things i should be looking at because this deal seems way too good to be true.

i have a 03 3.0 and i found a buyer for 17k if it works out ima go for it!!!

what do you guys think?

damn thats a smoking deal! wow man i'd go for it too. you probably can't really look for much yourself visually, so take it to a reputable german shop and pay the $100-150 and have everything checked out. this was probably the best money i've spent on my last two cars, fo shizzle! if its a good shop they will tell you everything you need to know...

if you want a badass car. don't mind crappy mileage. and don't want to mod your car(whatever you get) too much. then i say go for it!

V8 S4 is an awesome car. sounds great. and looks great right out of the box..


but if you want a fast car.... get a 1.8t

Great price, go for it! V8 prices have been dropping like a rock, I got mine a hair under 22K a few months ago and love it. Even as a daily driver it's very, very hard not wanting to push the car beyond what you'd normally drive the average Corolla.

freeway's not bad. i get around 20. the streets is where it can get ugly around 13-16 for me

Mileage is reflective of your driving style. I get 20/21 on the highway going high 70s mid 80s. Use the cruise control for those longer rides. Around town I'm looking around 16. On the bright side, gas should be cheap for at least a few months of carefree driving. I picked up a Tip myself and don't regret it, mainly because I spend enough time in traffic for a manual to become unenjoyable. I'm also less concerned about wear and tear. Before you purchase the '04, check to see if it was produced before either 11/04 or 10/04. There were transmission issues on build dates before that.

December 04 is after the transmission problems. I'm not sure of the specifics on what issues Audi was having, but I was told to stay away from the early build dates. It sounds to me that you're buying this from an independant dealer. I'd still take it to an Audi dealer for a PPI, despite whatever this dealer told you about passing an inspection. In fact, I'd try to find out what Audi dealership had it inspected, and then take it to a different one for the PPI, just to get a different set of eyes on the car. My PPI took nearly 3 hours, and the shop manager took at least 30-45 minutes talking to me about the car, did a walk around and discussed particulars, etc. I was impressed.

iirc, no timing belt in the S4 4.2 whereas the C5/C6/D2/D3 4.2s do have one. I read the 4.2 in the B6/B7 body are slightly different and couldn't fit the same 4.2 from the other models that had belts so they went to a chain.

Yea it is an independent dealer, so thats why im a little cautious. ill definitely look into a PPI and talk to audi about that transmission issue. Thanks for all the advice.. hopefully it all works out.

Sent you an email. The car checks out. No accidents no lease/rental history etc.

The only thing that i would ask about is how come the report shows 53k in January of 08 and here it is almost a year later and the mileage is the same.
