    Transmission help (tip)

Recently got into an accident, trans cooler had a hole in it. Half a quart of trans fluid most likely poured out. Got a new trans cooler assembled everything but did not add a quart of trans fluid yet. When i put it in drive I have to rev it to about 2-2,5k rpm for the car to move forward.

No strange noises, no clanking, no CEL, everything seems like it should be working fine.
(also the car hasn't been on for about 3months)

What could be the problem? Could it be that there isn't enough transmission fluid?

yeah, if you gotta rev it like that, its going to be fucking up your clutches and stators pretty quick.

sounds like there isn't enough fluid in the pan to maintain proper pressure, top it up before you even start the engine.

I only tried it revving it about twice, wasn't planning on driving anywhere really just wanted to know if it drove so I don't think I messed up the transmission.

Thank you for the replies, will do that right away.

after it starts pouring out, start the engine and keep filling with the engine running too, otherwise it will still be low. once it starts pouting out, re-install the 17mm plug, once thats done you can turn off the engine and lower it back down and drive again.

also use fluid that is compatible with the audi fluid (basically any multi-vehicle ATF) its only compatible with itself, so they say, i'm not going to try and find out and i don't recommend you try either.
