What is the top speed? A5 and S5

Haha I was actually wondering this today but both have their speeds capped by the ECU's unless they are reflashed. I know the A5 is capped at 130mph in the US.

S5 at 155 mph.

So no you haven't had your car at 135 with room to spare, unless it's chipped.

I am pretty sure although just out of curiosity when you hit 135 was it in 6th gear? I have heard that some cars limiters do not kick in unless you are in the top gear so if your 5th gear can max higher than your limiter you will be able to go over it unless you are in 6th gear. Can anyone say if this is true or not? I am sure that the A5 is limited to 130 by software. Hardware wise you can probably get it higher.

they really need to up the limiters ive run into the limiter like 50 times its so annoying 130 IS WAY TO LOW!

3.) suspension

your not in a F1 car...your in an introductory audi. a small step up from a vw passat. if you were in an R8 and the limiter was 130 maybe i could agree

Not completely true. For the most part the difference in speed limiter (130 vs. 155) is accounted for by a "sports package" provided by various manufacturers which happens to also rais the limiter. the reason for this is that usually the sport package will come with different rims and different tires - tires rated for speeds of ~160, vs. the stock / non-sport tires probably rated for ~130-140. Also, speed limiters are.... questionable at best.

Hypothetically, I have been in an S4 unchipped which has pushed ~160-165 without the limiter stopping it...

I've been 165mph (265km/h) with my A5 3.0TDI (software tuned),
didnt have my GPS on this time so its only the speed displayed in the meeter. I guess its around 250km/h (155mph)

and it wasnt limited there,..just the road that started to turn ..too fast for that speed.. ;)

A5 is absolutly not limited to 130mph (210km/h) ..in Sweden anyway the limit is set (if any) to 250km/h (155mph)..

like i said, sports package can mean any number of differences, but one big difference is teh TIRE RATING (did you read my post? haha) and the limiters questionable because of what i said right after it...

bone stock S5 (no software flash), 167 mph, but still felt like it could do a little more, ride was smooth and solid. i'm not sure if they even put in the limiter...

there will still be some speedo error so it is not a true reading...and the faster you go the more error there will be. the best way to tell speed is with a radar gun or a GPS

yes the limiters are mostly due to tire ratings and not the cars abilities.
