    grrrrrr UPS

so i bought something online (not audi related, a pair of goggles for $60). the seller is from the US and i of course live in canada. so i wait like 5 weeks to get the goggles, then call the company up and ask what the deal is. apparently canadian customs held the package, and then eventually sent it back to them. so i was like ok whatever, they refunded my money so i'll just buy the goggles again and hope i'm not so unlucky this time. so i get the goggles today, along with a letter from UPS saying i owe them $60 for delivery fees, fuel surcharges and a bunch of other random stuff! i presume this is because canadian customs sent the package back, but why do i have to pay? i know it's not a lot of money but it makes a difference...

is there anything i can do?

say all this to their faces,
tell them to take it up to your seller.
There'd be no chance in hell that you should pay for it.
SUE them lol tell them you're the GM of fedex haha

all jokings aside, do not pay.

UPS typically charges $40 for brokerage fee and I suspect the rest is GST/PST....

I refuse to shop from anyone who uses UPS. they have the highest fees ever, why anyone uses them is beyond me.

    Re: grrrrrr UPS

I've been shopping from vendors in the Staes for years and i got burned a few times in the beginning. So after that I only bought things that would be shipped via USPS unless I desperately needed it or it was sale of the century and customs and brokerage fees wouldn't change that.
USPS/Cda Post is the best because the most you get hit with is a small fee by Cda Post for taking the package from USPS.

I used to think that too until Cda Post managed to lost 2 different Pkgs and had 3 months delay on 2 of my other pkgs over this past 12 months....they were all insured by USPS...but it a hassle to wait for Cda Post to declare them officially lost then inform USPS to reimburse the sender and the sender resend new item/Pkg....After these incidents, I'd rather pay the $40 brokerage for security.....

These lost pkgs were tracked online entering Canada (Mississauga) and routed to Custom....and they never came out of custom....

    Eh?

    Re: grrrrrr UPS

By my calculation, which could be wrong, you are required to pay $35 at most (duty+PST+GST). I suspect that the seller you bought your goggles from held you responsible for the shipping cost. Give UPS a call to see what's up. I would also ask them the possibility of returning the goggles to the seller. If you don't pay what UPS asks for, the goggles become "illegal possession" of yours since part of the bill is duty/tax charged by the CBSA.

For those of you wondering why UPS sent you a hefty bill from UPS, here's the breakdown.

    1. You are responsible for paying the applicable duty and tax for goods received in the mail that are worth over $20.

    2. Then there's brokerage charged by UPS.

    Re: grrrrrr UPS

thanks for your help everyone but i don't think you're understanding what's really going on. basically i never received the first pair of goggles, but the company listed it as a return, so now i get the bill for the return shipping, even though i never even received them.
