Hey guys... this is my first winter in the northeast, i moved to ny from fla. i have an 01 a4 qtm with the sport package, the problem is snow tires for the 17's that are on the car are like 200 dollars each and being a college student i cant afford to spend 1000 dollars on a set of tires. while doing some shopping online i saw that i can do a set of 4 15's with tires for 500.. my question is will the 15s fit over the brakes on the car? please dont flame me for asking im just trying to find a solution to this problem of snow tires for the least amout of money cause i dont have much.

    Thanks
    Someday....

    Re: snow tire question..

I got 17s for my stock Avus wheels for $423 shipped, and another $80 for mounting and balancing. Tirerack has the cheapest imo.

15's will fit as long as there isnt any increase in rotor sizes, ie 288 -> 318 or any big brake upgrades kits done.
Where abouts are you in upstate, I have a set of 15in steel wheels I am looking to sell..

On tirerack you can get a 16 inch wheel AND winter tire package for $650! That way you can rock 16 inch alloy wheels for winter and keep your OEM wheels nice for summer. Best way to go.

Ah yeah, that is close. I dont know when you need them by, they are currently in Syracuse at my parents house. But if you arent in too much of a rush I could bring them back up here the beginning of Jan when I go home for Xmas.

I have had them for 2 years so they have some surface rust. One has a light scuff on the lip from a curb while parking, but the rest are fine otherwise.

Let me know if the time frame works out for you

Tires were $360 shipped from Discount Tire's ebay store. Yoko Guardex snows.
Wheels were $140 picked up from craigslist. 17x8.25" TSW Hockenheims from a Benz.
Mounting and balancing was $45 at German Auto. They wrote it up as a half hour of labor.
