I am thinking of adding bluetooth to the symphony II using the on-star replacement kit. found in the link below. Just wanted to see if anyone had any luck with this kit, or any additional advice when it comes to bluetooth.

thanks in advance for the help.

    Re: bluetooth question

NSX Jr. is a good person. Been around a long time.

It looks like the kit may require the RNS-E. Have you reached out to ask?

yes, we have talked (via e-mail) and it will work with the Symphony II as long as you have the multi-function wheel, from what he said.

I was hoping someone who has the unit could give some feedback.

    Re: bluetooth question

I have the unit, and it works just great. The only thing you lose without the RNS-E is some functions on the RNS-E, but as long as you have the multi-function steering wheel, you can scroll through your phonebook (displays on the instrument cluster center display), and use voice dialing features of the BT setup.

However, it is not a cheap thing to do...the hardware is about $450+, but you can find a few deals here and there on various classifieds.

If all you want is the ability to have your phone calls on your speakers with the radio muting when calls are placed and received, a simple aftermarket BT setup from Motorola or Parrott work just fine at a fraction of the cost. Not as well integrated as the OEM setup...steering wheel buttons would not be used in the aftermarket application, and there would be a button module that you ahve to stick somewhere.

I lvoe the OEM BT, but it is not fer everyone because of the price.

    Re: bluetooth question

Thanks for the reply. Good to hear that it works great. How hard was the install? I think I am going to go with it to keep the stock look and functionality.

Install is not too hard. Only requires removal of the OnStar module (which is under the carpet under the front passenger seat, and moving the wires form the OnStar connector to the BT module connector. I think a few VAG Com codes and then you are all set!

Yes, I had it too on my 2002 A6 and worked great, loved it! I have the oem bluetooth on my 2005 allroad too, just not the Onstar replacement. Great design.
