A8 transmission problems

I just bought a 1998 A8 quattro about 3 months ago. I was on my way to work, the car was fine on the highway... I pulled off my ramp, stopped at a red light, the light turned green, I hit the gas and the car would barely move (wasn't slipping, just having major trouble moving). I made it 1/4 of a mile to work and had the car towed to a transmission shop. Apparently the torque converter came apart and sent metal all through the transmission, ruining it. I can't find a good deal on a transmission and the shop wants more than I paid for the car to rebuild it . Does anybody have any good leads on a tranny/torque converter for my 1998 a8 quattro 4.2? ....or, does anybody want an a8 that needs a tranny?

Talk to Tozo on Audiworld mate... He rebuilds them and such. I am sure he can help you... Tozo is in Chicago btw.

Sorry for your loss. If you decided to part out the car I would glady take some parts off your hands :)

yea, to replace the tranny with a rebuilt ZF tranny it'll run you around $3500 I believe. Tozo may be able to give you a deal, but I think he's around the same price with a good warranty included.
