    E85

    Ok, so I was in York, PA Sunday morning getting gas @ a Toms and saw they had E85 there for $1.59. I decided to put 5 gallons in and then I filled the other rest of the tank up with 93 (8 gal). The S ran great the whole way home (70 miles) and I swear I felt a little more pull. I know if a ran a whole tank of it I would have fuel issues, and as far as I know I have stock injectors. Anyone else used this besides those of you that have the ECU tuned accordingly??

    i know that e85 gas conducts electricity and ive heard a must to run it is a fuel pump that does not conduce i.e. a walbro...idk about audi's but i guess most stock pumps are not fully sealed electrically. but im interested in where this goes because i would like to run e85 exclusively for cost effectiveness

    E85 is like 105 octane. By "exclusively", I take it you want to fill your entire tank with e85 all the time??

    Yeah, I heard that it needs a different fuel pump as well, but I thought that was just for pumping out fuel faster.

    well i know e 85 requires twice as much fuel or some shit, thats why suburbans and shit get better mpgs on reg gas cus the compression isnt enough for the better power.
    but yes i would run e 85 all the time. its 20% of the price of 104 in chitown at least.

    You're probably going to want to do some more research. Most people mix it. I'm no expert but running straight e85 all the time on a non tuned car can't be a good idea.

    You would need Larger Injectors, and a Fuel pump like Bosch 044. You can run it with a Stock MAF if you are on K03. To run 100% E85 you will need to be tuned for it, car wont go far without a tune and pure E85

    Re: E85

    Maybe it is cost effective if you compare it to race gas, but that would need an E85 specific tune. I live in South Dakota, so we have E85 as well as E30 everywhere. E85 is not cost effective if you compare it to normal gas. It is about 10 or 20 cents cheaper, so less than 10% cheaper, but it gets roughly 30% less MPG. So it actually costs more to run than gasoline. I have had good success with E30 however. You could mix it to make E30 with E85 and gas, but we have mixer pumps here that do it for you to make E30. I run E30 and did some preliminary tweaks adding about 10% primary fueling and it pulls harder. FWIW, E30 is roughly ~95 octane. I am going to be doing some more logging and tweaking to see what I can get out of it.

    I am running GIAC 93, would 50/50 mix be ok with e85 and 93? I just don't want to loose any performance.... only hope to gain a little, but without larger injectors at the least its probably all in my head that car pulls a little harder.

    SSP can set you up to run 100% E85. I am thinking about doing it if he can make it have 2 maps on one ecu.

    Just to let you know, You will NOT get better gas mileage with E85. Even on K03s you will need 60# injectors as E85 requires ~30% more fuel. Even tho E85 is cheaper you will end up using more of it.

    I would definitely like that, more HP at the price of Reg gas minus the the whole gas millage part. Still cheaper that buying 104 race gas...

    That is why people run it! You are buying racegas at the price of pump. Not to get better gas mileage.

    Wow, didn't realize it needed that much more fuel. So it seems like it's a cheap alternative to race gas for recreational or track use, if you don't give a hot butter about fuel economy. But as for it being used as a daily driver, anyone have consumption numbers? I mean, e10 pump gas is almost down to under 2 dollars here in MD for 93 premium.

    I seem to remember TommyGunn said he only got like 15MPG or so with E85.

    At this point, with 93 being almost below $2.00 here in MD i dont see the need to switch to E85 unless i wanted to run racegas.

    Edit: Here is Tommy's post from another thread

I currently adv 13 mpg vs the 18-19 I used to get on 93. ::This is a city highway mix:: Also city driving or traffic will DESTROY your fuel economy, however with that being said you will not save any money what so ever by switching over to e85. The only gains E85 has over 93 are;

    1. E85 is equal to 100~110 depending on what time of the year.
    2. You do not need Catalytic converters for E85.
    3. E85 is currently $1.57 a gallon. ::12/3/08 in Longisland NY::
    4. E85 is rejected and hated by Saudi Arabia
    5. Filling up for under 20 bucks and having an extra 100 ponies under the hood is AWESOME!

    On a personal note, I Gained 100 HP according to ARP explorer. I also cut my F.A.T.S. times by almost a second. When I ran 11.6 I logged my car and my fats times were 3.6 seconds with an ambient temp of 85* Later that same week I switched to E85 and Logged my car and got 3.08 fats with an ambient temp of 85*.

    If you have any questions please contact me or 2001NYS4 for all your E85 needs.

    Re: E85

    Yes, I realize that. Pricing works the same here. Maybe it was cost effective this summer, but not now is what I'm saying. Because the price of E85 is only 10-20 cents less right now, it is not cost effective. When it was almost 2 dollars less, then it was. For you to break even, the price of E85 has to be more than 30% cheaper than regular gas. Also, regular is E10 here as well...

    I'd think you could probably get away with 89 octane with that high of a mix? I don't know, like I said before, I'm no expert on e85.

    It might not be in your head about the car pulling harder. I swear mine pulls harder on certain gas(Shell, Sunoco). But then again, maybe that's all in MY head

    All this talk is good news. Added power plus better for the environment. But i would be careful if you dont have a tune. Im going to investigate these E85 stations, bc personally ive never seen one and I live on LI where Tommy and 2001S4NY gas up.

    I think that's a great idea. I just learned about it last week from a thread, as far as availibilty, tune, injectors, fuel pump etc. If you go to the national website for E85 you can do a pump locator by zip code, and then like I originally said there are some in York, PA. One off 116 and the other off of 124 I believe. Both were Toms gas stations that had bio diesel as well. I like being green, and getting a little more power, even if I'm only breaking even on cost.

    http://www.e85fuel.com/index.php is the web site

The S ran great the whole way home (70 miles) and I swear I felt a little more pull. I know if a ran a whole tank of it I would have fuel issues, and as far as I know I have stock injectors. Anyone else used this besides those of you that have the ECU tuned accordingly??
    I think I know the Tom's your talking about, it's right by my place. I was already thinking about having SSP tune my car when I go stage 3, might just have to get an E85 tune since its so readily available here.
