Top Speed?

Hey guys, so as of right now, All my car is running is a Stage 1 MTM chip. I am getting exhaust, splitter valve, wheels, and lowering it this month. Its a 99.5 1.8tqm.

Anyways, I got on the highway today, and very easily got up to 115-120 mpg, but then thought about it... Yeah I can go faster, but what are we geared for? At about 120, I was spinning at around 4500 I think... Any experience?

You are not going to get much more than 140mph with the k03, chip and stock trans.
I'm not going to get much more with the k04 and current mods.
I'll just get there a little quicker than you.

Well. This pic i took was me not even trying. Far from the limiter at around 250km/h. I've had the needle touch the electronic mileage gauge at the bottom, was too bumpy to take a picture safely. Nobody will willingly get into the car with me to take another picture.

nope. i was maxed out at 140... it had more RPM to go, but no more UMPH

At that speed, it just takes less than a split second, before it all goes horribly wrong.

I wouldn't take a picture of my speedo at anything above a genuine 70 MPH.

Well I can't participate in this because my speedometer gets stuck at 80 mph no matter how fast I'm going lol... not cool... I know I've taken it up to 5400 in fith gear... idk what that puts me at

I've posted charts of the speed in gear versus rpms for the 1.8t, 2.8, and 2.7t manual transmissions. The 1.8t redlines fifth around 150. Search for the charts if you want them.

Well that works on paper, but real world is a whole different story seeing that there are many factors to deal with. I guess if the car was running down hill or with a tail wind it might be possible to hit 150 mph with a K03.


It all really depends on what the redline is and how much power the car is making. I run a stock 1.8 trans and can hit 152 mph in just 4th gear, but then thats because I have a 8500 rpm red line and make enough power to get the car up to the redline at those speeds. I would only be willing to take 5th gear to 8500 on a closed off straight like the flats, but on paper it should top out at 187 mph.

I was in a Jetta that did 150 on a K03s, does that count?

As far as my top speed, my limiter is in the 128-130 range, at that speed it's not very accurate.
I will say this, I've only ever hit it three times. Once when it was bone stock + 710N valve, then twice after all the current mods. The second time I hit it, it felt like I was hitting the rev limiter in comparison to before.

I will say that the pull from 35-125 seems like it takes forever, 85-125+ is actually pretty quick, that heat soak issue seems to kill me on long pulls.

My old Jetta averaged 148 mph over 10 miles of Montana highway with 172 hp. Stranger things have happened.

Of course, with a K03 that much sustained WOT would have that little turbo glowing like mad.

149 GPS verified on a slight downhill of the NJ turnpike. Car stops pullin after 130 though and just barely creaped up in speed. Took several miles and the decline to go 130-149. Stock K03, chipped and with an intake. Our cars turbo's don't produce power after 6K RPM and actaully start loosing power from peak fast. My 07 GSXR1k, 130-149 is a flash

Only taken mine up to 125 mph.

Audi manual says top is 137, but at 216,000 miles, I'm not willing to put her to the test, smooth as she may sound.

Once new engine and tranny's in place, I'll take her to the Bruntinthorpe Proving Ground, and see what she maxes out at.

Mike's car sounds an absolute beast, I'd give plenty to have such pace!

My A4 has stock chip and wont go over 125. The previous owner of my S4 said he got it up to 150 with plenty left. I don't think I will ever get that close.
