from neutral to reverse the damn things revs for 20 seconds before catching the gear! I almost rolled into a parked car the other day waiting for it to catch....lol...is this a common issue or is my transmission fucked?

Oh wow. I had the same thing happen to me on an Escalade. If you rev it in neutral to 1k rpm and then to reverse does it do the same thing?

never tried it but in this weather the cold idle is right around there and from park it goes into reverse just fine...

mine doesn't take 20 seconds but it's definitely a long time. i'd driven full-size pickups (all autos) and they took a while to shift R <-> D sometimes, but not everytime like my a4. it usually takes a good 3-4 seconds to shift, and i make sure to completely stop before shifting. if it's honestly taking yours 20 seconds, i'd say take it in.

I have a manual and when it's really cold outside, 3rd makes this weird popping noise and first never wants to go in until I'm at a complete stop.:(

Only happened once but the other day I heard a LOUD clunk when shifting D to R into my driveway. Got impatient and gave it gas and heard a hearty clunk. Oops.
