Barn find score, early 90s 200/Quattro Coupe help anyone?

I'm picking up a Quattro Coupe this week in exchange for my GTI. A guy on my forum gets ahold of me asking if i want an old turbo Avant. I go check it out, it's a 200 (with the 20v 5cyl), score. He said he'd sell it to me for around $350, just has a gummed fuel filter (says it can't really be driven because it's choked for fuel), but i fired it up and it runs fairly well, idle surges a bit. Didn't drive it, but revved it a bit, definitely choked for fuel, fuel pump is extremely loud, but whatever, i got to hear it purr so i know it's a good engine.

    Down to business.

I want this engine in my Coupe!

I'm assuming it'll be a mostly bolt-in procedure, but the Coupe is EFI, the Avant is MFI/CIS.

    Approach 1...

Bolt the turbo set-up from the Avant on to the Coupe (the manifold i'm guessing swaps...right?) and run it until i pop the motor with an FMU for fuel management.

    Approach 2...

Bolt the engine in to the Coupe, swap the heads, cross flow and room to tinker with the turbo. Thoughts? Write-ups? An idea of what's involved?

    Approach 3...

Full engine swap and convert to CIS, again, thoughts? yadaya...

Try posting in the Audi classics forum: http://audizine.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=8
I think you'll get more help there. Sounds like fun though.

Check out Motorgeek.com They are experts in this area.

Are you sure you got a 20VT 200, what year is it? The 20v has EFI, the older 10VT's had CIS.

    It's a '91.

    http://www.audiworld.com/model/200/91-200.shtml

Says the Wagons/Quattros are 20v turbo...unless someone for some reason stuck a 10v motor in there.

The one on the left is it.

I'm trading a cheapie shot gun for the tan one, my girlfriend is needing a car and it's an auto FWD. The other one i'm planning for parts for the coupe, he'll do around $300-$400 he said.

I'm going to guess it really is a 10v because the intake and the exhaust are on the same side. Guess it's not such a good score. Doubt the manifold will transfer either, i'm sure the heads are entirely different.

    Approach 4...

Buy the thing anyway and have a pimpin' old school wagon after i fix it up a bit?

hmmm a '91 200 Quattro should be the 20V. But if the intake and exhaust manifolds are on the same side, it's definitely a 10V.

Thought it was a weird design for a 20v when i was checking it out, lol.

I'll talk to him some more about it.
