    Cold start problem fixed

Like many others out there, I also had the cold starting problem where it would take anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes to start when it was cold out. Replaced the starter and problem solved. Wasn't too hard to change. Just had to pull the sway bar and one of the motor mounts and that was all that was needed to get to the starter.

Same thing happened to mine, glad you were able to fix it. I take it your car was not under warranty?

Sadly it's not under warranty. 75,000 miles on it.

I Have Post This Same Question On My Thread Before, But Did Not Get A Clear Answer. I Own A Cpo Audi. It Has 74k On It Now And The Warranty Does Not Expire Until It Hits 100k. Will They Cover The Starter Under The Cpo Warranty?????

I don't know for sure, but why don't you just call and ask them? I got mine replaced under the standard 50k/4yr warranty. Good luck.

well did the starter last night and this morning was about 30 degrees, car fired right up, i guess that solved my problem as well about the "no start when cold"

    Re: Cold start problem fixed

I am having the same problem... I ordered the starter Monday and haven't recieved it yet.

This morning it was 32 degrees outside, and I tried to start the car and nothing happened... I used the spare key I have and it fired right up. What would cause this??? Bad batteries in the key fob?

Just co-inci-dink unless you can achieve this repeatedly. Mine was the starter too.

It's weird, Monday morning I waited 10 minutes before it would start. Tuesday and Wednesday, I used the spare Key and started up right away.

This morning, I went out with both, used the one that's hard to start, and nothing. Put the other key in, and it started right up.

I will take a video tomarrow morning to see if it does it again...

    Re: Cold start problem fixed

Thats interesting about the keys...I hear BMW has an issue very similar and was corrected by using the spare keys. The chip in the original key was the problem. Any, I had the same "Cold Start" issue, so I tookmy car to the deal and they found that my battery was not "holding the charge." So, they replaced it (September), 2 months later....same issue, now its colder.....they replaced the battery again (underwarranty). I am thinking I should replace the starter the next time or try the spare keys.

    Re: Cold start problem fixed

^^^ I just replaced the battery on Saturday thinking it would solve the problem. The stock one was almost 6 years old, and didn't have a green eye.

When my cold start problem was beginning, I tried using my spare key and it would start, but it would still take about thirty seconds to start up (not nearly as long as my regular key). But since I replaced the starter, it starts right up every time.
