I would be hoping to just spend $3 for a used PES 3G and installation. whats the cost comparison and hp difference between a 3.0L s/c and a 1.8T with bigger turbo????

    Re: Supercharge or not?(B6 A4, 3.0L)

    1.8t BigTurbo would be
-faster(the highest i've heard of is mike hood's 600AWHP, but he has an extreme amount of stuff done...not gonna list it bc idw to offend him by leaving something out or forgetting something lol)

-less money from what i understand(but i havent really researched S/C's that much)....
    work in progress....

spend only $3K will not be enough. get something fast enough for you and leave it stock

or do a 1.8/2.0 GT3071R build for your daily driver.
you are not even counting in the maintenance and repairs of a highly modded car.

your gonna get the s/c and supporting parts and a tune for 3k??

no it wont be the same, superchargers and turbochargers work in different ways....and one is that turbos are better

but you can have 330whp on pump gas with a gt30...

    Re: Supercharge or not?(B6 A4, 3.0L)

Ya but an install and mod requirements for GT307 is gonna be a grand or two, then 1500 for each turbo. I know a used PES 3G can be bought for around 3 grand and then around $1000 for an install, so it would be around the same price. For the same price i would rather have s/c 3.0L because it will have way more pwr than 1.8L with GT307.Correct me if im wrong plz cuz its definately possible. ALL in US currency BTW.

    Re: Supercharge or not?(B6 A4, 3.0L)

^^^ stop shooting out random infos here.

GT3071R twin turbo setup on a 3.0 is very very very hard! first, there is no room, you will be luck to find room. if you do find room to put the turbos, then you will have to do a lot of fab work for custom pipes. that's a lot of money.
your stock 3.0 motor will never hold that much power so that means you need to do a built motor, that will be major $$$.
twin GT 3071R or single GT3071R will push major power on a built 3.0, you need good qulaity pistons, rods, crank, a short block, etc.
then it comes to fueling, what fuel pump, injectors are you gonna run? no one know, custom work again.
then, what clutch are you gonna run to hold that power so you dont blow up the tranny(asume you gonna buy a 6speed, auto is out of the question)
you will need to find cooling solutions. you will need custom exhaust for all the air to be pushed out. you will need new exhaust manifolds, etc ,etc.
stop dreaming that 2-3K will give you a major power upgrade, it's not going to happen.
this is just some of the things that I can think of now.

like I said, get something that's fast enough. you want to make a slow car to go fast, you better be ready for such project turn into a money burning machine, testing your patience because of the downtimes, dealing with problems that come up, and several revisions for custom tune to make the car run right.

if you have 60K to spare, then buy a clean 3.0 and do all the custom work so you will be the king on the road. you will be faster than 99% out of the cars there.

B5 S4 is coming up with single turbo kits, you can ask them how much it costs to do such build. 3.0 is never popular, imagine all the extra work that will cost extra.

it doesnt matter if he does single or twin GT3071R turbo, it's a hard goal to accomplish. it can be done, but it takes major amount of $$$ and time and effort by someone who is interested in doing it.

I dont mean to through random numbers but im just asking questions that is why i said i could definately be wrong on my assumptions. But on another note would putting a gt307 in a 1.8l cost less than s/c a 3.0l?????

    Re: Supercharge or not?(B6 A4, 3.0L)

depends on how you do it, who you go to for the build and where you source the parts.

1.8T with 3071R will give you more power than a SC 3.0 for sure.

but you will never hear the sweet sound of a v6 exhuast note at WOT

what I meant was, if you are patient and buy all the things nicely used, and piece together the kit, you will save some $$$.
these builds draw money out of your bank account like robbery.

Ok i didn't realize that GT307 had that much hp addition to the 1.8l which is impressive and im sure expensive. But the main question i guess i have is which one is cheaper to do gt307 on a 1.8l or s/c on a 3.0l???(guesstimation/guess-estimation)

first, it's called GT3071R, you are missing a letter and a number.
in your case, do a 1.8T with the BAT build( Big ass turbo = GT3071R, or GT3076R).

and do some searching on the turbo topic, there are many guys you can talk about.

you are not pushing much air out of the exhaust, listen to some BAT 1.8L or 2.0L exhaust notes, they don't sound that good especially in higher RPMs.

hold on, you don't have to do a GT3071R for sure, you have many options. there are many threads you can read and find the perfect package for you(assume it will be your daily).
    engine size/turbo size/fueling/tuning etc

read some threads first or do some search, that will help you big time. or go on to VWvortex for some in depth knowledge about the 1.8T

To go from a 3.0 V6 to a 1.8T turbo is a step backwards if you ask me.We will be offering crate motors in the future in V5 turbo configuration.I am really loving these VR motors and they make great power with loads of access.

    Re: Supercharge or not?(B6 A4, 3.0L)

1.8 interiors are like passats. This girl at my school has a 1.8 B6 with a grey interior...yuck.

If you want fast for cheap...03-04 cobra, C5 corvette, GSX or GST, SRT4.

If you want sorta fast with a cheap interior...B6 1.8T

If you want sorta fast with a better interior....B6 3.0 G3

Also reliability is going to be an issue wether you BT your car or supercharge your car.

No wood trim, no folding mirrors, no memory seats, sometimes no power seats, no heated mirrors, usually no bose sound system. I'm missing a few other things too but I don't feel like thinking about it.

Personally, I'm not a fan of wood trim, that's just a matter of taste so no argument there. No problem with not having auto folding mirrors or memory seats (as most people who exclusively drive their car and have a driveway would). I'm pretty sure my mirrors are heated, but not having Bose sucks (I know plenty of 1.8Ts with Bose though). So I understand the 3.0 is the higher end model per Audi, but 90% of the people out there couldn't care less / could easily live without the things you listed. Doesn't really make the inside of the car feel any "cheaper".

Yes, I did just get overly protective of my precious 1.8 engine, sue me.

I agree it just looks cheaper to me. I guess I should have said features but everytime I see a 1.8t interior I'm like thank god I got a 3.0! But I see what your saying.

first of all, folding mirrors arnt interior, nor do they LOOK any different.

My 1.8 has bose and heated mirrors, non of which LOOK different either.

and wood trim is ugly IMO

If you think you hate wood trim, go over to the Mercedes forums. There's people who pay upwards of $1K for CF or piano black trim. Crazy stuff.

For the same price i would rather have s/c 3.0L because it will have way more pwr than 1.8L with GT307.Correct me if im wrong plz cuz its definately possible. ALL in US currency BTW.
It would be 650-700 at PES in penn. ....for the INSTALL

    Re: Supercharge or not?(B6 A4, 3.0L)

The most important question to this thread is how much do you want to spend on car + mods and how fast do you want it to be?

The answer to those questions could mean a 1.8T, 3.0, or even an S4 may be the best way to go.
