    Bad day of mods....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Most of my mod days have been fun. Today was not.

Start with 10 degree WI cold air then add a Packer loss. Next, reverse my car into the garage and catch the bumper lip (bottom) on some ice and tear it to pieces and sheer off the fender mounts.

Put it on jackstands to do the H-sport rear while laying in a pool of melting undercar ice. Pull off all components of the factory sway except the factory fused endlinks. Pull off wheels and then de attach the endlinks from control arm to remove with the sway. Strip FUCKIN ALLEN HEAD ASSHOLE BOLTS THAT THEY PUT ON EVERY SUSPENSION LINK THAT ARE GUARANTEED TO SIEZE AND STRIP!!!!!! shh.....shhh......calm down

Call the girl to tell her I need her car for a day while I spend some more $ on new endlinks.

Hopefully they will be in stock tomorrow.

    End rant

    Re: Bad day of mods....

It sucks, but we all have our moments. I remember first time taking out the drivers front half shaft and i stripped one of those bolts. That was a long day. We have to realize that its better to blast what were working on with PB blaster and let it sit. Then try our best not to strip what ever it is. A few more minutes of prep and life would be easier.

    Good luck on Monday

Especially on a midwest car! its much less fun than working on a southern/warm climate car! Sorry to hear about your woes....thats usually how working on these cars goes, and also how 1 day jobs turn into 2 day jobs. Just like that damn banjo bolt on the turbos! That had me driving up to milwaukee at night to get one from you!

That's exactly what happened to me last week when I did my Hsport rear sway. Except I was on a lift in a heated shop . Oh and what i did was ended using an impact gun and pair of needle nose vise grips.

Sorry MacDaddy, I hammered in the right sized allen socket(matco or snap on), used a lot of Zep 45 penetrating oil and it still rounded out eventually inside. Allens just cant handle a lot of torque. I have even broke cheaper allen socets before.

The set that I used from a tech (snap on or matco) were a different metal, but ofcourse he paid like 300 or something stupid for them.

Well the dealer (my employer) wanted quite a bit for the plastic endlinks so I ordered up metal ones from ECS and they won't be here till wednesday. I got me a KO4 hardware kit and an RS4 accordian tube as well since it was shipping anyway. I'm building up the VAST fueling kit.

I once installed the rieger rs4 front bumper in the snow and -10 degree weather in pullman, wa.... then had to do an oil change and spark plug change for the change in weather.... ended up saying f-it and couldnt remove the ice below the car so just drained the oil in the ice/snow, backed up and shoveled that block of ice of oil out lol. I hate the snow and ice... OVER IT!!

    Re: Bad day of mods....

So my "bad day of mods" is now turning into a real big month of pain. I got my H-Sport rear sway bar on and my snow tires mounted after having the car sit for a week. I drove it 100 ft and the CV joint that had a small tear in it is now completely shitting the bed *clank*clank* Clank* Back into the garage. I got to it today and figured I might as well do the:

    JHM heavy duty axles
    Front wheel bearings
    H-Sport Front sway
    10 Piece control arm kit

that have been sitting waiting to be put in.

PINCH BOLT!!!!! Ahhhhhgh! I did it easily 20k ago when I put in the CO's but now it is impossible. I ended up sawzalling the upper CA and stripped the whole brake line. I usually don't mess this stuff up but man am I on a bad string here.

I'm planning on taking the whole hub in to work to have them press in a new bearing then reassembling the one side completely before starting on the other. In the end I'll do the rear DS bearing too then have them raise my car for winter and align it. Too many issues.

    Re: Bad day of mods....

why'd you go for the pinch bolt? dont you know to stay away! haha. shouldve pulled the bolts out on the inner part of the control arms duhhh

sounds like a real bad month. sucks to hear. at least youre not broke and dont have the money to fix it all, then it would really suck.
