    Winter Time Garage....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
How are you guys staying warm? last couple winters I've just bundled up and jeans. I'm looking at home depot and Lowes, and there are a few 70,000 BTU kerosene heaters for under $200. Is this pretty decent for a 2 car garage?

    Re: Winter Time Garage....

We use a propane tank with a heater attachment in my friends garage. Take about 10min for the garage(2 car) to get toasty. We've introduced an oil radiator style space heater too. Basically the propane heats it up quick, and then the space heater keeps it warm for a while so we don't burn through the tank quick.
Biggest loss of heat would probably be the folding ladder opening for the attic/crawl space in the ceiling.
So maybe invest in some insulation before you heat it.

Oh, we also drink heavily. lol

A 2.7t motor keeps my friends garage warm, if we're working on his car the heat coming off the motor is enough to warm up the entire garage to like 60F from low 40s.

I bought a kerosene heater for $1 off craigslist, and it heats the 2 car garage in about an hour, and does a good job of keeping it warm.

I really hope that no one runs there car in a garage thats closed. It is really dangerous and someone could get hurt.

Ya, the space heater I have just doesn't cut it. I got my garage up to only 30F today. I worked on the Stewart Warner to the new PODI gauge swap and some other little things and never got warm. 20'X20' two car garage without any insulation is hard to heat up when its 25F outside.

    Re: Winter Time Garage....

Definitely get one of the "turbine" heaters, the other ones suck. Sure they're loud and somewhat directional, but they're more efficient and a LOT better at heating than the other ones.

The house in OH (yea the one that burnt down) we had one of these, and it got owned by a the "turbine" style ones that claimed half as many BTU's.

That's my $.02 though, plus the "turbine" heaters can run on Kerosene instead of Propane. Depending on the cost of either in your area, might depend on what you buy though.

We went through a 20lb tank of Propane in 3.5 days, keeping a pretty leaky 2.5 stall at ~50-55*F.

I did my entire widebody project with this guy. It does 80,000 BTU/hr

I bought it at Menards for $120.

should i got with something with more BTU or will that be good enough? Multi fuel tested is a plus since you can run diesel in it.

    Re: Winter Time Garage....

45K BTU's out of that style heater is > 80K BTU's out of the one we had. Look at Rob's pic.

Anything more than that will just decrease the amount of time it's on to bring the room up to temp.

Oh yea, don't forget to turn the heater off before opening a fuel system.

Otherwise your house can look like this...

My entire house is has aircon and heating, so i just tapped into that and it works great. Just the floor that gets really cold, and i often end up sick as a result.

Ya we finished it about 3 months ago and he hung the heater for the winter. He just gets real pissed when I work on my car and leave parts and tools lying around everywhere. Then again it usually takes me another month to put them away.
