You'll get 15-16K. That's about it. You take a BIG hit when you sell a modded car.

I hate to say but I agree...the cost of this car lost $6,000 in 1 year. I bought my 2002 for $19,900 with 59,000 bone stock a year ago. Kelly blue book stated private sale value of 19,700 in excellent condition as my car was...now KBB private sale says at best $13,500. With all those mods you are looking at a very select few people who would buy and those people are on the forums.

Re: How much should I ask for my 2001.5 S4

Now that is a bit unreasonable... extremely clean 60k mile stockers/stg1/stg2's go for 15k, 25k is absolutely out of the question, but if his car is well maintained, clean, and clear history, a stage 3 with that mileage +bbk could and should sell for 18-20k. There are quite a few similarly mileaged Stage 3's for sale in the 18-22k range... Obviously selling the car for 16k would be a quick sale, but to the right buyer it could fetch 19-20k.

I considered selling my stage 3 and purchasing a widebody, 54k miles almost exact same mods as OP except ASP vs. AWE. I would take no less than 19k, anything below that and it'd be better off to part the K04's, DP's, brakes, IC and other mods for 5-6k and then sell the car for 13 with shit KO3's in it.

it doesn't matter how many "clean" and "well maintained" and "meticulous" buzz words you throw into the description, the fact remains that the car is almost 8 years old, i'd say 15-16k at the most. But at the end of the day, the car is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Don't think that just because you put 5-6k in parts into your car, that it automatically adds that amount to the value.

Re: How much should I ask for my 2001.5 S4

Ive been on the market for over a month now and its been a big change in prices for these cars since i bought my original last April. I bought my 00 stage 2 for 12k and it needed TB, bumper repainted and had some scratches here and there. Now most 00-01 either stock or some mods stage 1 or 2 are going for 10-11k privately. Same thing at a dealer is 11-12k. Most stage 3s i have seen are 14-16k. There are a few that are above that and I laugh at them. Most enthusiasts rather buy a stage 1 or 2 for 10k that is clean and slowly build up to stage 3. Which is what Im going to be doing. No offense to anybody's stage 3 build, its just I rather do the work my self and enjoy doing it with friends and family.

Also another few reasons for me not to buy a stage 3 are as follows.
1)Rule of thumb for mods is that it only adds 10% to the vehicles overall value. Ive heard this and dont really agree from an enthusiast view but thats what the market uses.
    2) I dont know the seller. Ive been screwed over once before with a previous car by a 50 year old guy and blah blah. Lets just say you cant trust anybody.
3)I dont know how well the car was made into stage 3. Either home brewed or from a well known company. If you have proof of the work being done at a place like EPL, ASP or AWE then value is greater
4)Stage 3 is stage 3. Who isnt going to drive their car hard. Which could means runs on the track, and more abuse overall. Ive also seen how some cars dont react well to stage 3 after a while. It takes a beating on the engine having 150 or more chp than it is from the factory.
    5) these cars are getting older everyday. Yes they have a classic look and you cant find a better overall platform, but people that want a new stylish car with power are selling and moving on to 335i, new s4s, and others. Selling your car is going to be rough no matter what you have. The economy is bad and nobody wants to spend money, as christmas is right down the road and people are spending money for presents.

Yes I agree that you will not get 25,000 for your car. The low miles do help you but still its tough times right now.

Buying a Stage 3 car already is appealing to me instead of doing it myself but I'd have to really check the car over to make sure it was done right.

This is one of the worst times because of the economy to try and sell it and get anything close to what you have into it.

Why do you want to sell it after doing all that work for it?

Regardless I hope the best for you.

with that mileage, depending on how clean, I'd say $18,000 is about right.

Re: How much should I ask for my 2001.5 S4

In contrast to all these people I could see it going for around $20k with the low miles and all. The ones for sale $16-18k don't necessarily have the miles and a fresh timing belt. Generally speaking, alot of these people are right with mods, they don't add much value at all, but I think that stage 3 mods on a B5 S4 are the opposite because people have well recognized the certain weaknesses of this car and that those mods address those. Good luck either way!

Just curious, why would you spend so much on mods 3 months ago to sell now?

haus- that a was pretty comprehensive buyer's guide for the B5 S4. you're definitely right in that it's not a (anywhere remotely) new car. that's why i took some time to look around for the second one. i know those turbos are eventually going to take a bath, i'm not an idiot, and like you're saying, older menghs owning a car should suggest that they took care of it, but i mean it's a toss up, you don't know their driving habits or whatever, etc. sometimes i ask myself why i got another B5 S4, but whatever i love the car so much

edit- i'm in the bag, so if that sounded ghey or anything, go please oneself

I could see 20K, but not a dime more. From one awe stage 3 owner with LESS miles (62K) on an 2001 to another. We have very similarly modded S4's. These cars have taken such a huge hit recently. I bought this car exactly one year ago for 21K BONE stock, I am loosing my ass on it if I even consider selling it, so i'm just going to hold onto it to get more moneys worth. Good luck

Yeah except I'm pretty sure that SF casa is TIP! And I think ///M3 and I are in the same boat. I paid 19.5k for my car stock a year and a half ago because it was so clean and such low mileage. I have thought about selling but the idea of not even getting back what I paid for the car is too much to bear! thinking that the 8-9k on mods and maintence is gone! no way. I am just going to wait until everyone else's S4 is crashed or stolen (please no hard feelings) and then MAYBE it will be worth something again

I have to agree with you about the an older person owning the car. It really, really depends on the person. My grandpa for instance, was a VW/Audi tech for 30 years. We do everything together on my car. But the funny thing is, he takes better care of my car than his own. I know my PO had money and didnt know his ass from his elbow when it comes to wrenching, but he through money into the to keep it up. He had a bently GT and one of those new 3 wheel bikes in his garage. He was only 28. So you never know.

Hah, i test drove dakotas and have driven a 1500 with a Hemi a few times. After driving my car, you would have to give me 2 for the price of 1 to get to me think about it.

Only if Audi dealers did the same....

You guys are so lucky!!, you are paying minimal amounts of $$ for a B5 S4. B5 S4, Down Under in Australia we are paying astronomical amounts. Not to mention the huge amounts we are paying for Tuning Parts!$$$$$

At this point I don’t think there are any B5 S4’s for sale in Aussi (B5 S4’s are very hard to find!!!!) but to give you an idea, here is an example of a 2004 AUDI S4 B6 for sale $63,000 with 47,000 Miles.

take a look at all the S4's we have for sale downunder, not 2 many.

That’s correct but we are paying lots of $$$.

Like us I think you guys get the Recaro seats??

I just got a quote for two R1 Diverter Valves $700 & APR S4 Cat-back exhaust SRT $2,700 (not fitted) and the list goes on.

But at the end of the day I’m really happy whit my Nogaro S4.

    That’s Aussie $$$$.
Yes we can order from the US but the Aussie $ value is shit.
One Aussie $ only gets about .63 US cents & not to mention all the other cost$$$$

    1 Customs value (Cval)
2 Customs duty (Duty) @ 10% of Cval
3 International transport and insurance or postage (T&I)
4 Value of the Taxable Importation (VoTI) (Cval+Duty+T&I)
5 Goods and Services Tax (GST) @ 10 per cent of the VoTI

All adds up to $$$ for the Australian Government.

Best thing to do, is visit the US and smuggle an exhaust SRT down the front of my jeans. “But officer!!! I swear!!! I've got a stiff leg"
