I got mine from www.vvme.com and they work great. I have a 2003 with the H7 bulb. Yours might be an H3.

    Re: HID Fog Lamps?

I just ordered a set of 35w HID H3 setup for both the rado and the A6, from theses guys. http://www.ddmtuning.com/hidkihidbuhi.html

I will see how they are when I get them. A friend put them into his A4 fogs and they worked good so I figured I would try them out in my rides.

    Re: HID Fog Lamps?

I wish I could have replied to you earlier with the bulb size. I have a 02 A6 2.7T and just put a HID set in the fogs. The sylvania guide says the fog light bulbs are H3 so thats what I ordered. I went to get them installed and it turned out that the H3 was the wrong size. They are actually H7's, so if they didnt ship em out yet...see if you can get the bulbs changed. Good luck with them

Are H7s OEM on the C5 or do they require a kit?

The VME bulbs are only 4.99 a pair - is that a special or are they always that inexpensive?

They showed up Friday and I am doing the install tonight. My 01 is H3s, I wonder if the facelift has different, but my friends 02 2.7TT has H3s too. Go figure.

    Re: HID Fog Lamps?

It went well, the install is pretty much plug and play. I think it may have taken me 30 minutes with drinking beer and taking it slow to insure I did not touch the bulb. The first pic is just the low beams. The second is with the fogs on. I still have them aimed pretty low, but they do a great job of lighting up everything nearby more clearly. You can see how much clearer the hid light is. It looks a little blue on the snow, but it is all white (4500K). And yes, that is a deer just off the road!

I drove home from work tonight in a blizzard. The fogs did not blind me like my truck's light will. Being low works great for the driving conditions I experience often. For about 25 miles, I was only going 40ish and still passing an occasional 18 wheeler or suv.

pics mean nothing, unless everyone would make them at the same distance from the exact same color wall, in the exact same ambient lighting, with exact same camera. Otherwise they either mean nothing, or less than nothing, being misleading. I have H7 from my ebay link installed in my 01 Allroad, and they look great. Meaningful number is the light output, usually measured in lumen, and these LED providing about 3/4 output comparing to good 35Watt HID's. General rule about HID - never install them in reflector housings, only in projectors.

Really? I thought the pics Snowhere posted above give a very good representation of what you could expect for actual light output. I can tell by that pic that the light output of the HID fogs is far greater than the stock halogen bulbs.

That's great you think they are great, but that's just your opinion.

I know how light is measured. Thanks. So are you in fact saying that the LED lights you are referencing provide less light output than most 35W HIDs?
If yes, what was the point of installing the LED lights again?

I am not saying that HID is not brighter than stock halogen, nor I am saying that the LED's I referenced are brighter than HID. What you missing is that HID arch shape is not designed to work in reflector, when the LED I referenced are.

    Please red this:
"Halogen headlamps and HID headlamps require very different optics to produce a safe and effective—not to mention legal—beam pattern. How come?
Because of the very different characteristics of the two kinds of light source."
    http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...nversions.html

From this latest generation LED you will get 3/4 of the HID output, BUT much better shaped beam. In any case you getting about twice the output from LED and almost 3 times from HID comparing to stock. That is in addition to easier installation and longer life of LED. Shining HID misformed beam into actual fog is not a good idea.

Let's not forget that LED output numbers are highly dependent on junction temperatures so proper heat sinks are a must. If you have a LED with crazy lumen output and active heatsink... it is not designed to be OUTSIDE of housing (like our fogs) but inside light assembly, so that rules these out- fan will fail quick once water gets to it. If similar LED bulb has only passive heatsink, rest assured that once it fires up, it will quickly dim the hotter it gets until it melts/shuts down.

good point about overheating and LED output. If you look at the LEDs I linked, they have flexible braided heatsinks and completely waterproof. This is what they call 5th gen LEDs, where for the first time thermal management issue is solved. Not sure about A6 fog light design, but there is a plug in Allroad rear housing cover. I removed that plug, pulled braided heatsink through the hole and sealed opening with silicone.

And the pic shows EXACTLY what that's illegal. Are you f.ing kidding me? I mean I see douches in their chevy junk pickups sticking these in and thinking in their limited ways that they're so cool...but come on. Having a proper projector laying all these lumens in one coherent beam and not blinding everyone on the road is far cooler.
