Hey guys, im looking for a straight up, honest answer. Please, put aside your loyalty for this post, and reply in pure honesty.

On average, are s5's reliable? ive had a few friends with b6's and other audi models with problems up the wazoo. i am looking to sell my car for either an e92 m3 or s5. both are in my price range but coming from driving all japanese cars in the past im used to the awesome reliability that they provide.

    Re: s5 reliability

i would generally wait till near the end of the platform lifespan before purchasing one to see what problems will develop over time. I don't personally know anyone that owns either cars so can't really help you there. although i've never had a problem with my b6.

    Re: s5 reliability

To answer your question.....You're not going to find any difference in reliability between the BMW or the Audi. The A5 shares A LOT of parts from the new A4. The B7 A4 was more reliable than the B5 and B6....Audi is doing well in improving those aspects of the car.....so the B8 platform should be very reliable. Since the A5 is a modified B8 A4, you should be good to go. I agree with Siggie that it would be beneficial to wait until the first model year is over, but if you have to buy now, I think you'll be fine with the A5.

This is probably because they had their blinker on. It is a safety hazard so that is why the side shuts off while the blinker is on. Vagcom can be used to disable this annoying feature.

    Re: s5 reliability

I have a 2009 but recently on the other forum we were talking about who has the highest mileage. Someone said they had 20k+ miles on their S5 with no problems.

FWIW, mine was built end of September, and so far I have not run into ANY of what the so-called 'common' issues are (clutch, lumpy idle, vibrations, etc). One thing I did note recently is that when swapping out the B&O sub for a 10" MB Quart, I was trying to follow some instructions online (written for an '08) and noticed that in the '09 there are a lot more bolts holding down the sub and rear deck (I think 9 total that are absent from the '08), so I think they've done some revisions to reduce interior rattles which I've on occasion heard as a complaint, especially when listening to loud music.

But yeah, for me 2500 miles in, and so far so good. Not a single complaint. And yeah, regarding the LED set that's out, disabling that was my VERY FIRST mod. I hadn't even made it home from dealer yet, and already met up with Sizzle who helped me reprogram it so the LEDs don't turn off when signaling. Terrible terrible look when it's unmodified, I think if not for VAGCOM, I'd just stop signalling altogether.

omg...they do?? Its definately going to be my first mod! I hate how the new dodges does that (not that I like dodge) but i think it does look stupid having the headlight turn off when signaling. Its probably because headlights are becoming so bright now that its hard to see the signal like flashing.
