my battery light came on today and after driving a while it went away came back and went away and now its on constant. on my turbo timer it reads 11.5-11.8v when car is running key on it reads also 11.5-11.8v from off to starting it reads 9.6,10.4,then back to 11v range could this be my alternator or battery? i had issue about a month ago that it wouldnt start but when i jump started it, it started up fine or i would had to slam the clutch pedal for it to start a few days of that and the problem went away and no this im leaning more towards the alternator whats do you guys think? TIA. !

Looks like you need an alternator..

Try putting the battery on a charger overnight, then watch and see if it goes back down into the 11's.

with such a small voltage drop i would say make sure the connections are clean and tight. Make sure the terminals dont have acid around them and use a terminal cleaner brush to clean em up a bit. if not then you alternator is dyin but cleanin it is like 5 bucks so its worth a shot.

    Re: battery light issue help!

exactly what started happening with my car last week. Then a couple days later the guage dropped below 10v and my headlights started flickering and luckily was able to coast home down the street! It was my alternator. Just pulled it and had it rebuilt for $100. Pretty easy to do, I think I'm going to post a write-up because the only thing that gave me trouble was knowing what tools I needed.

yeah that would could higher resitance in the wires and make it harder for the current to get through. i would fix that first since its easier and should be fixed anyway... its possibly harmful to jump from an obd2 car. i have heard of burned out ecu's and other electrical components from jumping other cars.

no just the part thats damaged... should be the ends that connect to the battery if i'm picturing it right.

    Re: battery light issue help!

While the car is running, unplug the battery. If the car stalls, then you need a new alternator. And with the amount of voltage left in your battery, you would not need to replace it. The alternator should bring it back up to specs. But do not drive it till you replace the alternator, if that is the issue.
