    Small feature I never knew...

If you have your AC on full blast in manual mode with the temp on HI, when you pull for wiper fluid the AC will run at a higher fan speed for about 10 seconds. Nice to get a little extra heat in the car when its really cold.

Incorrect, the extra "fan" that you are hearing, is the cars system switching to recirculation mode to prevent the smell of the washer fluid from entering the cabin. The air ducts for the cabin are right in front of the wipers. Go see for yourself.

We've got 22F feels like 6 right now in Central New York...

Why would the recirculation cause more noise?

Because instead of pulling from the atmosphere it is pulling the air from the cabin, try for yourself. Put it on recirculation mode, then place it in the normal mode, wash your windshield and see.

PS, Now I know why I moved down to South Carolina, its about 50* here and im getting ready for a nice round of 18.

because with non-recirc, you're only pushing air into the car through the vents, ie. one-way. with recirc, you're both pushing air into the cabin AND pulling it out again, thereby using more vents & ducts, creating more air turbulence which creates more noise.

Interesting... I'm not sure it does that for me... at any rate, I always smell the stuff afterward.

Re: Small feature I never knew...

i thought that was b/c it was essentially temporarily turning on defrost (vents near the windshield) to prevent the wiper fluid from freezing on the windshield (cold temps) or something

Re: Small feature I never knew...

when you're defrosting, you want A/C, because the air is "dryer" than the ambient cabin air, which is already "humid", which is why the windows are fogging up to begin with

(that and perhaps you and your passengers are a bunch of mouth breathers) :)
