DIY: OEM Power Rear Sun Blind

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I submitted this to the DIY section, but I has not been approved yet.

    Parts Required:

    Rear Shelf
    Power Sun Blind
    Power Sun Blind Control Module
Screw for Sun Blind (Will be explained later in post)
    Connector to Sun Blind
    Sun Blind Button for Dash
    Connector to Button
Around 15ft of 3 Conductor Wire (I'd say at least 16 gauge)
    10 amp Inline Fuse

    Tools Required:

    Torx Screw Driver
Various Wiring Tools (crimper, stripper, ect)

    Estimated Time: 1-2 Hours

Here is a picture of the sun blind and module

You will need to couple the 3 conductor wire to the sun blind connector.

First you will need to remove the old rear shelf, start by removing the speaker grill, it will just pop off, you can use a flat blade screw driver if you cannot get your fingers under it, once the grill is off, there are 4 torx screws holding down the shelf, remove these.

Next, you will have to remove some interior pieces to get to the rear deck, first remove the upper trim panel.

Next, remove both rear grab handles. Pull down the screw covers and remove the 2 torx screws.

Now you will need to free the C-piller covers from the rear deck, they are held in by clips, so just pull them towards you and leave them loose. Remove the 4 torx screws pictured earlier. There also are about 4 clips that hold the rear shelf in, they are right behind the rear seats, just pull the shelf towards you to free them. Now you can remove the shelf. Have someone hold the C-piller covers up so that you do not scratch your old shelf on the way out.

Now that the old shelf is out, route your cable along side the brake light cable and down behind the trunk lining. You can route this cable to the front of the car many ways, I already had an amplifier wire ran to the trunk, so I followed that same path, but the wires need to end up in the dash.

Now you can re-install your brake light onto the new blind, and install your new sun blind equipped shelf in reverse order then reinstall your interior pieces.

Next, plug in the sun shade and brake light, and attach the sun blind to the car chassis using the screw. You can use the genuine Audi part which can be ordered from the dealership, I however had the perfect screw in my screw cozy.

Now you will need to power the blind, I ran a power cable (with 10 amp inline fuse) from the battery down to the drivers side kick panel, there is a also a good ground bolt here, you can test the blind by momentarily touching the trigger wire to the positive.

That's pretty much the hardest part, I will add the installation of the button to this writeup soon.
