    Cool Attn: Dog Owners

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey Guys! I'm a recently new owner of a B7 A4. Any advice for protecting the car's interior when traveling with man's best friend?

I have been pretty hesitant about taking my dog in the car, but eventually I will have to give in. I have owned the car for about a month, and he has been in it twice. I have tried laying a sheet over the back seat... but it inevitably falls off, even when secured within a matter of minutes. I'm mostly worried about him scratching the leather/doors, he also has a tendency to lick things.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

put him in the trunk with the back seats folded down and a net to keep him from getting close to the leather... youll still have to worry about cleaning the air of the dog smell....

Grishbok probably has the best idea if you must take your dog in the audi, but it might be cheaper to get a beater for small trips with the dog. I would never let my dog in the audi. That's why we have a honda. You may also want to get a kennel if the trips won't be too long. Don't let your pet ruin your ride.

If getting another car isn't an option...

All the pet stores have pretty awesome seat covers that you can slide on when you drive around with the dog... they are pretty cheap too... good stuff.

Or maybe, get some socks for the dog... my dog eats them, but maybe they will work on yours?

    Good luck

dude, its an audi not a lambo. also it is afterall a mans best friend, let him ride shotgun with you in the car.

I usually put a towel in my car but our dog is a toy breed so if you have a lab or something in that nature you just need to tough it out

    Re: Attn: Dog Owners

It depends what type of dog you have and how well your dog listens. When I take Quattro with me, I just lay some sheets and after awhile he just lies down. The only problem is when he intially gets in the car, he has sratched the door sills, but it is only that. I would be furious if he scratched the door or something.

If your dog has no problem moving around a towel should suffice, else get some sheet covers. Lasly hair will fly around the cabin, so just be prepared.

depending on how big your dog is, maybe put a towel or clip his nails so he doesn't scratch the leather

declaw it like a cat just kidding but. licking wont harm anything. but the for the nails you could get dog shoes for it. Even cutting them short is still long enough to scratch something.

    Re: Attn: Dog Owners

Like it's mentioned many times: it depends on how big your dog is and how well he listens & is behaved in the car.

All I know is for my 85 lbs shep/lab mix, I bought a 6'X10' piece of fabric at a textile store and we wedge it under the headrests & under the sides of the seat cushions so everything stays in place. We're fortunate to have a pup that's well behaved in the car: he just flops down and enjoys the ride! His blanket's long enough to go cover the whole rear seat & back up over the armrest so he dosen't scratch it when he's trying to hang on for dear life ()!

And when he gets out, we just fold his blanket on itself and voilÃ*!: almost no dog hair/dirt in the car! For those times when he's really dirty, we just add a towel underneath. Obviously it's best to keep his claws on the short side.

Now with the baby coming, I'll have to find a way to convince him that after 11 years of owning the rear seat, riding in the trunk is just as fun...

    Good luck with your pup!

    This is what you need...

Guinness, my lab/shepherd mix, is 48 pounds and she has adapted very well to riding in the back seat with this hammock. She tends to leave nose prints on the windows and the door panels, but is fine otherwise.

For short trips, I put a towell on the front passenger seat and she rides next to me--which is fun because she stares out the front like a person.

Always leave a window cracked for fresh air and I suggest waiting 20-30 mins after your dog eats before getting in the car. Finally trim his/her nails.

It is total paranoia to not allow your dog in your Audi. Hell, you let your dog in the house where you live.

I would never let my dog in my house except for during tornado and hurricane warnings. The dog has torn up enough stuff outside, I'd go broke if she got inside. Also, I am not rich so an Audi is a really big deal, and I like to keep it in good shape.

I use that in my S4 and it protects the leather quite nicely, and since my interior is 2 tone special edition I am VERY paranoid. It doesn't protect the door though, but my 45lb Jindo doesn't slobber or mess with the doors much.

    Re: Attn: Dog Owners

I have a Lab and she rides in my car Daily. She just turned 1 year old, so she was only 5 months old when I bought my '06 in May. She's really good about sitting and not moving when she's in the car, she sits there "like a human".

Yes I have to clean and vacuum the backseat, clean up the dried up slobber on the door during the summer weekly, and I use Leatherique monthly. It's just become my Friday night or Saturday morning routine. And if someone is going to be riding in the backseat during the week, I carry a pet hair roller and glass cleaner so that I can quickly clean up. It's just no big deal to me.

She hasn't damaged the seats at all. In fact, there's more damage to the drivers seat from me getting in and out (left bolster has a small tear which may have been there before).
