    One hot piece of ass!!!

Hope you weren't expecting some juicy pics of the female form!!!The hot piece of ass mine. Burning more specifically; I was doing the pedal covers/dead pedal covers set, all four (dead pedal, clutch, bake and accelerator), and new LLTEK floor mats install this morning. I moved the seats back and forth a few times and vacuumed under them pretty thoroughly. Now when I turn on the heated seats (drivers side only) it doesen't work correctly. The majority of the heat is dispersed to my left ass cheek only. It gets so hot so fast that I have to turn it off, so I can't even tell if the rest of the seat funcions normally. Anyone have any ideas as to what I should look for to fix this? i.e. loosened wires? blown fuse? something that happens to everyones car in time?

I like my seat heat, but don't want to have to buy a new seat to have it. Anyone know of any DIY's I can try? or what this might be, or even better just how to fix it cheap; please let me know.....

Thanks for takin the time to look!

    Jim

Re: One hot piece of ass!!!

I don't have heated seats so I cannot check on my own vehicle but it is possible that in moving the seat about that the wiring was caught and gnarled slightly, causing a short.

I'd remove the seat (disconnecting the car battery first) and carefully look over the wiring that leads from the seat bottom to the series of connectors located on the seat floor. Follow the leads up into the seat to see if the tracks for the seat or the underseat cargo tray grabbed the wiring and caused any damage.

I would avoid using the function until the cause can be found, as a matter of personal safety and to avoid any risk of property loss or electrical component damage and damage to the seating surface, I'd disconnect the connector (green if my memory serves me correctly) for the heated seat function completely in the meanwhile.

Shit, I was going to start a new post but I have the same problem. It's the same symptoms where my left hamstring burns even at level 1!

I'll look at the wiring and see if I come up with something meanwhile.

Re: One hot piece of ass!!!

Looked under the seat, and not visible tangled wires. It's freaking cold even in the garage and have no motivation to take the seat out. I'm guessing from reading other posts that the wiring may be bunched up on the left side or that the right side is dead and all the current is being sent to the left one, hence the overheat

Dear lord, please have diagnosticator reply here

Heated seat trying to set you on fire usually means the heating element is blown. You can replace it, but you need to pull the seat apart to do it. Not uncommon.

    BLOWN?!

So the right one is cold and the left one is hot, and you're saying the right one is BLOWN?!

Any assistance on how much or where to buy without being gouged? Does anyone have a P/N handy by chance?

    Thanks...

Re: One hot piece of ass!!!

I haven't had it happen to me but see threads about it frequently. The B5's had this issue too. I think when one of the elements dies, the other one gets twice the current and starts burning your ass.

Looks like the element is around $130 at audipartsdepot.com. Or wherever you order you get parts from. I don't know the procedure for pulling the seat apart. If you search, I'm sure there is a writeup somewhere.
