    coming soon: ATF flush DIY

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just finished flushing my tranny and took lots of pictures so i can do a DIY for everyone and remove the smoke and mirrors surrounding audi's seemingly mysterious transmission.

everything went OK except for when my friend came over to help and made a huge fucking mess i just spent the last hour and a half cleaning up, i think i'm going to buy my own drill pump and make it a one man show for next time.

I wanted to have some help, but it seems like it ended up being more effort

oh well, now that the tranny is nice and clean i'm just going to do pan services, i might even splurge on synthetic ATF, or i'll just see if my buddy can get me some from his work for some beer.

What fluid did you use? I thought you could only use the Audi approved fluid and not normal ATF. I was gonna get some Amsoil ATF but Audi said I could'nt use it.

you can use normal ATF as long as you flush out all of the old (audi) stuff, if you mix it, the tranny will fail, or at least thats what the manufacturers say.

the only fluid that i believe is different is the chrysler ATF+4. reason why is Valvoline now makes a tranny fluid that is compatible with everything, mercon, Mercon V, mercon SP, Dextron 4, BMW, Audi, toyota, nissan, Hyundai SP2&3, etc etc
if all these fluids really were proprietary, I have a hard time believing that Valvoline of all the companies out there managed to reverse engineer over 8 different fluids, then come up with a one size fits all solution. Thats some pretty good chemical engineering worthy of a nobel prize or something, yet they can't reverse engineer Chrysler's ATF? to me, it dosn't add up.

go with an ATF cooler as well. extend the life of the tranny and fluid a bit.

I think i saw one on audiworld, you need a funny looking tool to remove the drainplug. looks kind of like a giant tamper-proof torx IIRC.
