Im thinking about buying an b6 a4 and have looking toward an 3.0L but i just love turbo's. So i was wondering how easily (inexpensive) you could turbo a 3.0L and how would it be on the engine reliability?

s/c is the way to go for 3.0 cars if you went turbo you would obviously have to get 2 and would cost way too much

Not 5g's more like 2-3k if you buy used. Reliability rate if fine, it just depends who the source is.

    Re: 3.0L turbo?

$2-3K to put a turbo in, but you need to find out the difficulty in doing this. if it wasn't too big of a deal we'd see a lot of 3.0L guys doing it, but to date i haven't seen a single person...

You could always try something like this http://www.ststurbo.com/universal_system. Someone once posted something similar on a B6 S4 but I never saw the follow up. I don't know of anyone to use the kit I linked on a 3.0 to date though.

    Re: 3.0L turbo?

    Ask 3.0 King and Maverick
As I remember, 3.0 is a very weak engine, I think tin can was the term Steve used.
So yeah, destroying your engine is possible. There is no intercoolers, so meth injection is the only viable option. You can buy used PES G3 for like $2k (I think Nimski) is still selling his. But then add labor, and don't be surprised if it simply won't work. Going WOT will blow your engine, I was too scared to S/C mine. I'm waiting to get S4 in future and call it a day.

    Re: 3.0L turbo?

Theres no tunes out there for a turbo 3.0, so youd have to get a custom tune $$$

    plus 2 turbos... $1500 a pop ish?

intercooler? clutch? built internals? custom exhaust manifolds?

    not cheap.

    go get a 2.7tt S4

    Re: 3.0L turbo?

Lampy I ment 2-3k for a used G3. There are two twin turbo v6 audis in the world. One is a 2.8, and the other is a 3.0 and both are in Europe.

Tom3k, you are very very very wrong my friend. Not hard to install yourself if you have a little experience. Also you don't need to intercool, and there is an intercooler available, you just need a hood with more clearance. Your simply won't work comment doesn't make sence. I daily drive my G3 and go wot usually at least once. I've held the hammer down till 140mph. If you consider the number of G3 units sold compared to the ones who have experienced problems it's not as high as people believe. Please please educate yourself before you pass judgement on a product. Yes there is room for improvement, some people hate the tune. but that can be said about any product.

I think you should just do youself a favor and go with a large turbo on a 1.8t.

There are few lucky people like yourself, Maverick for example, he did suffer a lot of problems, do you have PES tuning or custom?
I spoke to 3.0 King for a long time and I value his opinion a lot, he gave me few warnings, few recommendations. I like to floor the car from time to time and on stock internals I was told by a lot of people, it is not a good idea.
I rather learn on others' experiences than my own, I can't afford anything like that. You're probably right, the percentage is not that high but risk is still substantial.

    Re: 3.0L turbo?

There is a risk going BT too. I'm just trying to say some people hype their problems with the G3. It really isn't as bad as people make it out to be. I rev to redline almost everytime I step foot in it...but I don't abuse it. Everytime I start it I won't move it untill the temp gauge comes off cold. Also I won't hammer on it untill it is fully warmed up. More then half of the reviews of blown motors are "Just put on the G3 went out and floored and it blew up!" The 3.0 needs time to settle in with the G3 attached.

TT would be a complete custom job, and I'm sure would run over 15k at least.
