    Yay! Engine out.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I got the motor out. Started around 10:00am, engine out by 6:00pm.
I also got the driver side turbo and sure enough one fin was bent and one fin had the tip missing (that turbo has been whining for a while).

    Tomorrow, piggies, and K04's.

    Will post pics tomorrow.

    Re: Yay! Engine out.

haha, I'd say getting the motor out in a day, especially if its for someone who is new to working on cars is not bad at all, and of course everything is easier the second time around. Usually your time will be cut in half if not more! It's funny when I think back and I had soo much trouble getting the axles out, even with the motor pulled forward about 6 inches! and now i know that all I needed to do was jack up the suspension halfway and they literally would have fallen out with the tranny pulled forward!haha

    Re: Yay! Engine out.

to those who took out the turbos....

THERE IS GOT TO BE AN EASIER WAY TO TAKE ALL THE WATER/OIL LINES OFF THE PASSENGER TURBO!

That one alone took me a painful 1 hr! The two top lines sit like on top of each other and you can't get a friggin wrench in it!

    UNGH!!!

oh... and piggies took a while too... So engine still out, will put back in soon.

Pics will be up in a few mins. Didn't take that many of em cuz I was busy WITH THAT DAMN TURBO!

    Re: Yay! Engine out.

Thats more like it. Lookin good man. You do fast work.

How much mechanic work have you done in the past?

While you have it out I'd make sure and check it over for oil leaks and maybe replace gaskets that are leaking or anything else that is needed for the car.

Looking good. For all those people who can pull the motor in a hurry what are some pointers to get it back in?

    Re: Yay! Engine out.

Lift, push forward, lower I made sure to line up the axles when the motor was about 8-10 inches from being in, I also zip tied the driveshaft in place so it would line up nicely. other than that... don't get frustrated when trying to put the clutch slave back in, it is no fun!

    Re: Yay! Engine out.

On the fourth pic, it looks like the cherry picker is going in for the kill. lol Nice quick work. Now if it was only 70 degrees warmer here.

STI - with the slave, when you first put it in, make sure you FEEL resistance. I put it in the first 3 times and it slide right in. Hit the clutch to test it and nothing. I was like wtf. then finally i had to reach into the hole to feel where the fork it. You need to make sure that the end of the slave hits the fork.

    Re: Yay! Engine out.

Engine back in. Turned the car on and it sounds awesome! Piggies give it a slight growl that wasn't there b4. Pics coming soon. I'm recovering from bleeding the slave.

Holy hell man, who ever decided to put the bleeder up there should be shot, resurrected, and then hit with a vorpal dull spoon +5.

I managed to reach up under the car and bleed it AFTER I put the engine in, finding the damn bleeder was the hardest part. We'll see if the car doesn't puke it's guts out tomorrow.

Last on list for tomorrow before test drive is lining up the front bumper and oil change.

Took me about 4 days total not counting the week I had to leave town on a business trip.
