Getting diffuser painted matte black... need your input

i have a buddy that paints boats and what not, and he's willing to spray my diffuser and mirrors matte black. he told me to go to this one paint store, and get 1/2 pint of matte black paint and a clear coat with activator. when i got there... the guy told me that once you put a clear on.. the flat black paint will become glossy so i need to know how you guys did yours. what paint did you get, and also did you put on clear?

actually the paint it the same but to get the matte finish it's the clear coat that has a special blend to give it that matte black finish :)

if you want to do straight flat black, do plasti-dip

the diffuser and mirrors are big enough where i want it painted matte black. i'd use plastidip if it were smaller pieces.

Most of the people here (including me), who paint these parts try and achieve a factory plastic appearance. Id go with a satin type paint. Just a little bit of sheen, but still dull to the look and touch. If you clear coat it will look too glossy.

did you find out what clear to use and where to get it? i tried a few auto places like autozone and couldn't find any. i see a rattle can paint that says satin black and i might just go with that, but i'd rather have it done matte black if possible.

All those cars that you see painted flat black never have any clear coat on them. That's why the popular thing lately has been to just wrap cars with flat black vinyl. You have to take care of the paint.

and let me add that caring for paint without a clear over it is a pain in the ass.

I did pretty much the same, but without the clear coat:

its great to see everyone going from s-line to a non-sline look! Grass is always greener. Keep your painted bits since you paid extra, we would like to remain an exclusive clique.

How the hell is non-sline exclusive? It's the freaking base model.

he's saying that b/c theirs come grey. although close, i'd rather have matte/satin black or even body color than grey.
