Hypothetical mod limits to a S-tronic tranny

Does the S-tronic (which is a sequential-manual gearbox) have a torque limit like the current Tiptronic transmissions?

I ask because after reading about the S-tronic coming to the 2.0TFSI A5, I can't help but think that would be my likely choice to do a balls out BAT quattro while I'm still single and before married life after I graduate medical school and have to get another SUV. haha.

But seriously, are there torque limits for that gearbox?

7 ratios, holy crap that's cool. I mean Ferrari did it first, but good choice by Audi.

it's basically a DSG, and DSG's don't handle power well.

I thought it handled power as good as a traditional manual...

Re: Hypothetical mod limits to a S-tronic tranny

dsh is weak in the fact that there are two driving shafts, one for odd gears, one for even.

I forget exacty how it works, but I think that one shaft is inside the other, so one is hollow.

I'll have to read up on it again.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong?

The veyron has a dsg though...

Re: Hypothetical mod limits to a S-tronic tranny

Here is what my understanding was...

A traditional DSG transmission is a single clutch gearbox like on the BMW M3 or more specifically the Audi R8 R-tronic and Lambo E-Gear (which are identical gearboxes).

Audi S-tronic is a double clutch gearbox more similar to Ferrari's F1 gearbox or Porsche PDK gearboxes, and therefore not really considered a DSG but instead something different. I would think the power limits of one of these would be much improved over a traditional DSG and Tiptronic, specifically because of the two input shafts. Because the double clutch always has the next higher and lower ratios spinning at correct speeds, it's also possible to launch these cars.

Either way it looks that by 2010 Audi will have released the S-tronic on all the longitudinal mounted motors as well. Audi claims gear shifts in .02 seconds.

they are all built for different reasons the lambo and Bugatti DSG's are built for power not the same gearbox as the one in a DSG GTI. they don't handle power well, because of the fragile design, or else Audi would be using DSG in their RS6.

Re: Hypothetical mod limits to a S-tronic tranny

r-tronic in the r8 is complete shit imo. the s-tronic (dsg) is a great unit for stock power, but i dont have any experience personally with it combined with serious modifications. iirc the new tt-s is equipped with dsg and that has close to 300 hp with a garrett turbo, so i assume it can handle a certain amount of mods.
