    Re: muffler delete?

if you take it to a muffler shop.they'll charge you $120 to delete the two mufflers in tha back. another $60 for the resonator in the middle.it will make a huge difference.

    Re: muffler delete?

I have cut two mufflers for mine and thought it was too loud (inside the cabin) so I had to put the resonator. Now it sounds pretty good - not too loud but you see the difference.

    Re: muffler delete?

i cant believe how many people enjoy going straight pipe. i never heard it on an A4 but it sure did sound like crap on a couple other turbo 4's. i could only imagine how annoying it could sound in-cabin after a while. Youll probably pick up some more power but will use more gas as well. see phrost's post on exhaust cutout

You don't have an idea how annoying this is. I had SRT4 with turbo back 3" pipe. No mufflers, nothing. So much hate from my family... Never had a single problem with police tho. Maybe because I'm a safe driver and don't drive like ass.

MY BAD! I DIDNT LOOK AT THE DATE + I'm thinking about deleting my mufflers and found this thread.

    well....at least you searched lol
and they probably hated your car because it was a neon...not because of the sound it made

Do not pay to have your mufflers cut off; one it will be very loud and you will probably want to reverse it and two, you can get the same results for free and its 100% reversable.

Under the car, where the downpipe connects to the mid section of the exhuast there is a slip joint. Simply take a 17mm wrench and loosen the two bolts, then slide out the downpipe so that it dumps in the middle of the car. If you have a testpipe then it will essentially be a straight pipe. I ran it like that for a while, with a TP, and it damaged my hearing lol. But the sound of the turbo spooling and sucking air is worth it.

Leave the res. and just gut the mufflers that way it looks stock but sounds better. I ran my with the slip pipe off for about an hour and it was WAY to loud for my taste.

Well. I went to the shop to "just check the prices" and this is the end result $100 later ;)

It's not as loud as i thought it would be. It's just sounds nice.
I also did an intake mod the same day so now I hear a nice whoooshh.
I'm 100% happy from the results.

    Clip soon.

maybe its because im getting older, maybe its because i chopped my resonators off and did not like it, but if your anything like me, you will grow to hate loud exhausts, when you start your car when its cold you'll find out it sounds very cheap, tinny, and at best obnoxious

at first you will like the sound, it will be different and louder, but sometimes different is not always best and in due time i think you'll find yourself trying to find a newer exhaust to help quiet things down a bit

its just my opinion and take it for what it is, but i am a perfect example of trying out cheaper things, and later on replacing them with what should have been there in the first place

    - my exhaust, resonator delete, test pipe -> switched to -> 034 hfc, stasis exhaust, reason: too loud, smelled bad, got nasty looks

after that fiasco it pretty much taught me to just wait and do it right bc half-assing it will only make you spend money down the line, this is not to be confused with paying more money for the same thing (read: buying an apr exhaust over billy boat, buying a carbonio intake when a stock+K&N will do the same, and forge dv over OEM revision DV)

I too was thinking about gutting the mufflers this summer because I feel my APR exhaust is too quiet but after reading that it can sound cheap and tinny, I think I'll just deal with a quieter car. hmmm what a pickle

welds aren't the best but for a $100 is not bad. At least it dcoesnt leak or anything. Like I said sound is not annoying at all its exactly what I wanted. There's another shot from the back. I used 3,5" tips which are welded in. Paid $30 shipped for them from eBay. I will upload the clip later on tonight.

Here's the three things I think

    1. This is the A4 B7 section... your 4.2 v8 sounds nothing like our 2.0 4's lol

    2. That link doesn't lead to the video

    3. The quality of the video ruined the sounds of the exhaust, if it had been better quality I would say it probably sounds amazing especially when looking back at thought # 1.
