    Running 100% Octane

Driving through neport beach tonight and I know of a 76 that sells 100 octane. My question is, will it hurt my car from how hot that stuff burns?

Might be a noob question but its worth it than blowing something up

Don't do it. It will blow up your car. Only astronauts can use that stuff for their rovers because they drive on the moon which is made of cheese.

You might not wanna run 100% octane, maybe 50%...otherwise your car might get addicted. Start her off in small doses, in due time her tolerance will build and she'll be able to handle 100%...but then it's off to rehab

    I agree.

Ya 100 hasn't come down still six bucks a gallon. Apr 100 as big of a jump from 93 though on my car.
I usually just mix 100 and 91 to get to 93. Sucks. I think because they haven't sold all of it at that price.

    Re: Running 100% Octane

I used to go to that Station in NB off of Mcarthur. It was $4.25 then.

Price at the station by my house is locked at $7.50 still. They said because they dont cycle through as much high octane stuff, so they are still going off of the reserves when they purchased at a higher amount

    Re: Running 100% Octane

Thanks, thats what I thought. I was confused because I know you have to get programed for 100 but i wasn't sure if you HAD to do that. Now I know I can still use 100 and have great results but if i want the best, get it programmed...

    Re: Running 100% Octane

I notice this warning in the APR manual:

DO NOT attempt to use anything less than certifi ed 100-octane unleaded fuel with programs intended for 100-octane fuel. *Lower octane gases are NEVER to be
used with race-gas programs regardless of how much octane booster or other additive is used. OCTANE BOOSTER AND A LOWER OCTANE FUEL IS NOT THE
EQUIVALENT OF 100-OCTANE RACE FUEL. Failure to comply with this guideline could result in expensive damage to your vehicle.

Do you need to run a tank of 100 through to clear out the 91, or just wait till it's real low to fill up?

You guys are lucky. In Canada, the max we have is 91... (regular is 87, plus is 89 and supreme is 91)....

I remember a trip down to New York got me to fill up at 96... What a drive. :)

    Re: Running 100% Octane

One of the newer stations put up nearby has VP 100 octane and last time I checked it was $8/gal but that was when prem was almost $5 too....other than that, the nearest 100 octane around here that I know of is 50+ miles away

Not to get off topic, but damn gas prices have really taken a nice downward spiral!! I'm paying under $2/gal for 91 now! What has the world come to?!

You might want to go check at Petro-Canada they have 94 and I am also from Mtl. I run it all day long on my giac 93. Anywhere else I think you're right, only 91

Yeah, you're right, I usually go to Petro-Canada so I was not 100% sure, Sunoco are rare in Mtl region and remember now, Shell has 92 also. Can someone tell me where to find race gas in the region.

so, what you may not be catching in teh sarcasm here is there is no such thing as "100% octane" Octane is the resistance to detonation/explosion rating generally derived by the R/M^2 method here in the US.. (root/mean^2)

as for "how hot" the fuel burns that depends on MANY other factors and has little to do with its octane rating.. check out VP fuels' website for explanations of flash points, octane ratings, burn rates, and the other things to know before playing with advanced fueling options.
