Hey just wondering what you guys think of my plan. I'm looking at getting a 2000 a4 1.8t quattro 5-speed. It has 110,000 but has a SALVAGED title. The owner said it was stolen, but once I get his vin number a carfax will prove that statement. But my plan was to get an audi a4 anyways, I wanted a 1.8 turbo and was planning on completely rebuilding the block and possibly the transmission with whatever car I get, with more then 100,000 miles. This guy says first gear in his tranny is toast.

So what do you think?, I don't mind driving a salvaged title car for a while and maybe later down the road after I save more money I'll buy a clear titled one and swap my rebuilt engine and tranny over. He's selling it for 3,500...

Offer him 3k, wont hurt. Hows the body? straight? carfax it, maybe have him pay for it to get inspected somewhere at a local shop.

$3500 isn't bad, I paid $3800 for a non salvaged but wrecked(and repaired) one with higher mileage.

I'd offer him $3-3250, but I don't like paying asking price for anything.

Wrecked cars make great track cars, they're cheap, you don't have to feel guilty about hacking is apart to save 20lbs.

I'll be the first one to say that salvaged is ok as long as you know the history of the car. Just keep in mind that if you plan to sell the car later on, it will effect your asking price.

My car carries a salvaged title but it is one of the best performing and handling cars I have owned and there are not a lot of cars that I would take above mine as I have all the records and history of everything that has been done to this car.
