Bas gas millage after Carbonio Intake??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Please dont bash, this is a serious question. I have searched but since Cabonio is such a used word its pointless searching.

I installed my intake on Monday, and my car read 170 miles until gas tank is empty. Today is thursday with about 20 miles driven and the car reads 95 miles left until gas tank is empty.

During install the direction said to take the MAF off the hose and twist it to fit the carbonio ..

I did not do this i simply twisted the rubber hose a bit to fit. Might this be causing the problem? the tube bends a little so it might be restricting air. IDK

Re: Bas gas millage after Carbonio Intake??

did you reset your ecu? your maf should be reading different numbers now, due to changes in airflow and perhaps air temp changes.

i'm not too familiar yet with how this car works, but with all other cars i've had, you need to reset your ecu after changing your intake. your car will need to readjust due to the changes, which is why your gas mileage sucks. give it about 2 full gas tanks, and your car should normalize again.

I can't imagine something during the install making that much of a difference unless the hose is really choked off.

Did you touch the maf element?

Are the clamps tight so there's no air escaping ? If you have a leak it'd cause that for sure as well as being overchoked or restricted, so it could be either.
    No need to reset ecu.

Re: Bas gas millage after Carbonio Intake??

also, the computer on our cars isn't the most accurate device. it uses an algorithm to "guess" how many miles your car will get out of the amount of gas in your tank, based on driving habits, avg speed, etc.

so if you just got a new intake, and you're flooring it and revving the motor a whole lot to enjoy your new sound, it will calculate into how many more miles you will get out of your tank with your current driving habits. chances are, you're a little bit heavier on the throttle, because your car sounds/feels different. therefore your "miles left" numbers may drop significantly.

that being said, i would definitely go back and review your install. make sure that hose isn't pinched, and that everything looks like it's hooked up properly.

no, you don't need any ecu work. However, since your maf will now have different readings with a new intake, it's generally practice to reset their ecu to force your car to learn and readjust to the new readings.

again, it's not a required step. your if you didn't reset your ECU, it will adjust in due time.

If I remember correctly the carbonio instructions said after you install it to letr the car idle for a certain amount time so the car could adjust to the increase in airflow...I actually got better mpg after the intake was put on

Re: Bas gas millage after Carbonio Intake??

ok well went to the DMV and to school and back home today, was about 30 miles. Got in the car and it read 125 but i guess when it finally adjusted it went to 115. I am posting now with the dash reading 110. :) everything turned out ok.

Keith i think the bend in the hose did make a difference.

Keith thanks for your help and this changes what alot of people said about APR customer service .. He im'd me all of yesterday to try and fix the problem
