Anyone With Convertibles Here?

I'm thinking about buying a 2006 S4 Cabrio, but don't see very many here with convertibles, are they frowned upon or just rare?

Here is the info on the one I'm considering if anyone has pricing opinions:

2006 Metallic Black over red B6
14k miles
6 sp manual
Loaded: Nav, Bose, Premium, Parktronic (MSRP $66k)
$33k negotiated price

I'm comparing against 2 hardtop convertibles EOS and 335i so this is right in the middle.

So any insight you could give me on how you like your Cabrios and if you would upgrade just for the hard top would be appreciated

I think that people buy an S4 for several reasons, one of which is, the car has 4 doors. You'll lose that with a convert. It's also a winter car and most winter cars do better with a hardtop.

If you want an convert, wait for the S5 to arrive. Now that's a good looking car and I hate verts.

IMO they are kinda fem looking, although when i was at the dealer the other day picking up a coil pack there was a black rs4 vert that was tinted and that had the gunmetal rs4 rims that looked sick.. I'm thinking the fender flares toughen it up a bit..

i say get an 06 M3 Vert instead, the a4/s4 verts look a little too girly imo

The S4 sedan is hard to beat total package wise. V8, quattro, 4 doors, ect. The S4 cabrio is likely going to be a more fair weather car which begs to wonder if you really need quattro. Hard top cars like the sedan are also more rigid and handle/perform better, which is what a lot of the S4 crowd is after. I do agree with the others though, for some reason the A4/S4/RS4 cabrios look fem.

OP: you live in texas. an M3 vert may be a better car if you don't need quattro. It'll handle and perform better than the S4 cabrio.

I have a B6 black over white, manual, black top, XM radio.

At the time I bought it (Jan 2006) there was nothing like it...there still isn't as a total package. I live where it snows, and I had a B5 S4, so I'm an Audi fan and need awd. I also had a miata (1999) and fell in love with open air driving. I'll never fully trust anyone's opinion if they haven't driven it. My one friend that has driven it (race-car Jimmy) absolutely loves driving it. I think it's a sexy shape. I get stared at all the time and compliments from hood-rats to senior citizens (even my 84 yr old gramps before he went in for heart surgery). Other than Sugarhips, I've only seen 1 chick driving an S4 cab. It's not as hardcore as the Sedan, but I'll never take it on a track. There are a lot less of them which makes it cooler IMO. Mine is totally stock because I plan to upgrade to an RS4 cab or maybe an RS5.

I have no regrets.

I have a 2006 S4 Dolphin Grey Convertible and I just love it.

I was dead set to buy a convertible and I tested BMW which are nice but nothing compares to the interior quality and better comfort of the S4 cab. The legroom in the backseat is also a def. plus in the S4 compared to the BMW (Yes I wanted a 4 seater due to family etc).

One thing I noticed however now that I put on dimpled rotors was that the clicking noise they produce is def. more noticeable.

Personally I dont like verts.
Ive noticed a few s4 verts for sale and they dont move well in this area.
If youre into them go for it.

BTW, there is a silver 06 s4 vert w/ black&silver alcantara interior and 15k miles for sale at a dealer near me for 35k.

I thought the S4 cabs were just about the coolest best looking cars in existence when they first came out...now they look slow. I also hate M3 cabs as they need that roofline. You could always modify your cab though....I often think what life would be like had I bought an a4 cab.

Question for you...we (Canadians) assume that you (Americans) think that its frigid up here year round. Do you?

Where I live in Toronto (5th largest city in North America behind Mexico City, New York, LA and Chicago), we have 4 months of good heat (75-95 degrees) 4 months of mild weather (50-75) and 4 months of cold (0-40 but usually hovering around 25).

We get snowfalls about 40 days per year.

So convertibles are 'good' 8 months of the year here. With that being said, in those 8 months the convertible still has that Hawaiian shirt stigma to some.

I lived in upstate NY up until 3 years ago, and my sister went to law school in Buffalo NY on the otherside of Erie and Ontario for 3 years. Thats where she meet her husband, and about 70% of his side of the family lives up there.

I hear what your saying about a vert not being practical.. Hell when i had my 300ZX twin turbo when i was in NY i would take it off the road every November and not put it back on the road til April.. Sucked..

In my case, I live in a 365 day sunshine climate.....as long as we aren't flooding out out being blown away by hurricanes. Since my fun car is a coupe (Porsche 996 Turbo), I like the convertible option as a DD.

I like M3s OK, but they are pretty common here, and I think the Audi looks better inside and out.......and this particular car is 5 miles away and is the EXACT color combo I wanted (metallic black with red interior).

I got a lot of flak for buying a convertible... even more because it is white. I'm trying to make it a little more masculine - had an ABT three piece spoiler installed and am trying to get the chin spoilers. Have a set of matte black VMR 710's waiting to go on too...

This is more of a summer/weekend car, so I don't mind. People make fun of me more for my daily driver - Honda Del Sol.

anybody who thinks that any s4 is for sissies is probably latent. my car has dp's and a catback and sounds ferocious. silver with black top and gray interior-not a damn thing queer about it.

I've got an '04 S4 in Ottawa Canada. Awsome car. Driving it today in the middle of a good snow storm (6 inches of the stuff). Quattro is unbeatable. The soft top is insullated so well that when up it is hard to tell that you're in a cabrio. Perfect car for all occasions. 335 is a solid car and if snow was not an issue, I'd consider it BUT the trunk is gone when the top is down in a 335. I can still get a full set of clubs and a couple overnight bags in the trunk of an S4 cab with the top down.

My mother (68 years old) drives a B7 S4 Cab with a 6 speed. She loves it. I think the A4 verts are chick cars but the S4 and RS4 are nice. If you are into verts go for it.
