    Engine/Cluster ??

Hi everyone, I am new on this site but have been working on Audi's for a long time. I know this isn't the Engine Tech forum but honestly I did not see one so I thought this to be the next best place.

Recently installed a new engine in a 2001 TT 225 and now the cluster will not work and is popping fuses instantly. Even with harness unplugged that could potentially be causing a bad ground, the fuses still blow as soon as the key is turned to "on".

Just looking for some insight here. Obviously the TT is known for a bad a cluster and I do not know if the cluster was working before the engine was replaced but just looking for some input.

    TIA

    Re: Engine/Cluster ??

Blowing fuses is a strange symptom IMHO that may point more to the wiring/grounding than the cluster. I would think you'd have issues with the cluster and ECU immobilizer after you have safely powered on the car without blown fuses. If they are blowing at ignition my guess is that their is an electrical issue before the cluster.

Was the harness from the old engine or new? Did you swap out the ECU as well from the old engine or did the new one come with it's own? I believe the cluster and ECU are "mated" to specific engine revisions (i.e. ATC, AWP). It's not a simple swap if they are not identical engines and even if they are the clusters normally need to be reprogrammed to work with the immobilizer by the dealer.
