i have a b5 98 1.8 at about 130k on it.. i keep up with maintenance. its chipped and runs smooth.. but lately on my usually drive on the highway 2 work (usually late ) i down shift to about 3rd 3500rmp or on 4th i hear my car spoil loud n does its reg lag. but lately its been lagging a lil extra every time i down shift. (unnecessary extra lag). then i guess it finally kicks in to gear n starts pulling.. so my question is do you guys think it might be time for a new clutch? maybe might not be grabbing hard enough?.. or maybe boost leak? what are ur opinions on this?? kinda wana do something about it b4 its to late.. thx alot

okay i'm going to assume that you know where you clutch catches. To see if your clutch is bad, stop your vehicle like half of the hill then try to drive the vehicle without car rolling back, if your sure about where you clutch catches and if your rpm go above 3000 rpm & then car catches your clutch is bad.

With with your car being at 130k, your turbo might be going

yea more than likley he would have a high pitched dentist drill sound and heavy smoke coming from his exhuast, but it seems to me that your clutch may just be old and having trouble grabbing.

    Re: Need Some Help!

I had a car much like yours, chipped.

With a problem much like yours.

The only sign that my turbo was blown was a little extra hiss.
Just slide off the clamp on the compressor side of the turbo housing and check for play in the center shaft. if you can move it, time for a new turbo.

If you can do it, find a blown k04 on ebay, and rebuild that beast, grab some tuning from whoever and boom 225 hp.
