I was driving down the road today minding my own business when my rear window Just exploded. No reason at all. I heard a loud pop when it happened. My car was going about 25mph.

Has this happened to anyone else?

How much is it going to cost to replace?

First a red-light ticket and now this............ Boooooooo december.

Nope. Its COLD here in Chicago so i had the heat at 71* and was watching my speed over some ice. Next thing I know BAM! The edges are literally broken on both sides so when i shut the door the window pushes out.

LOL!! not laughing at you, but you know whats funny as hell? in high school, me and my friends were cruising in my moms dodge caravan and all of a sudden the passenger window just explodes completely out of nowhere! freaked us the fuck out. i whipped a u-turn real quick thinking some kid shot us with a bb gun or something, but we found no one or nothing. sooooo weird. needless to say, my mom didnt believe that shit for one second back then, and even funnier it still comes up til this day (11 years later) and she's still like... "i know you guys broke it somehow. someday youll tell me" haha, its funny how my mom still thinks at 27 id lie to her about it. so yes, it has happened to me.

OK i did inspect it this morning. The tint is holding everything together right now. The glass is completely smashed into little pieces. My insurance company is going to cover it but i hate making claims. A little duct tape is going to hold it until i can get everything taken care of.

Yeah, it's a weird problem, I haven't had it yet *knock on wood*, but I'm not exactly sure what causes it to shatter like that.

Yes. I believe it was on for about 5 mins or so before it happened. My back window is also in the 20% range as far as tint goes.

Same thing happened to me during the middle of the summer at a stop light. The tint was holding all the glass in place. It's common with Avants from what I gather.

I got lucky. My dealer replaced it under warranty.

Its probably the weather. Really cold glass is very brittle and will break more easily, especially if you add heat to it (heater on inside the car maybe). I know because i tried to make a bong out of a leopard print vase using this method. The final straw that broke the glass might have been any movement that would apply pressure i.e going over a pothole or bump in the road.
