    metal engine sound

ok i just spent the past 2 days searching all over for the answer to this and i cant find it anywhere well here is the problem:

when i start the car or the engine speed is below about 2200 in either nutural or 1st gear. it doesnt happen all the time but it is a metal clanking sound coming from the engine block but i cant tell what it is. the car still boosts the same and i took off the front mount and looked at the intercooler hoses and they had no metal debris in them at all.i have no idea where to look next i took out the spark plugs too and there were not any metal on them either and the oil looked fine i had it changed 2000 miles ago.

The subject is a 1998 Audi 2WD 1.8T AEB engine GIAC chipped with an n75 race valve and godspeed front mount intercooler. i ran the vag com already and have not gotten any engine codes at all so please dont tell me to go vag the car. any help would be greatly appreciated.

You would have to take the downpipe off the back of the turbo, so you can get to it, and then maybe see if you can wiggle it and see if its loos.

Maybe someone else that had a similar problem will chime in.

Oil pressure problems? No rattle in the AM due to the oil being colder and thicker maybe?

I'm going with the wastegate, happened on my car. Starting to make the same sound again now. Very annoying. No power when making that sound as well?
