Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm having a real big problem taking off the bottom 8mm allen/hex screw in the rear left carrier (the top came off only with a vice-grip; as i stripped the bolt...) does anyone have any advice on how to reach in that small area? the 8mm allen/hex doesnt fit in there to unscrew it Any advice would really help, thanks !!

should be tight but not so much that you can't remove it. maybe heat up the area bolt threads into? or impact driver able to fit? make sure you are using the right tool, you shouldn't strip it if you are using the right one.

Re: Real Big problem with brake carrir

If you really need to take the carrier out get ratcheting wrench that will fit 8mm allen/hex socket, then put the wrench that fits the 8mm socket & then put the socket on the lock carrier bolt *make sure the socket is in there or else you will strip the socket*. From there you should be able to loosen the bolt with ratcheting wrench.

Not sure why you will need to take the brake carrier out, if your changing the rotor you do not need to remove the carrier.

no you do not need to remove the lock carrier. All you have need is 13mm & 15mm wrench. After you removed the caliper out the way i believe there is HEX nut that is impact on to the rotor, so impact the HEX nut out & hit the rotor with hammer so it become loose. From there you should be able to slide the old one out & new one in.

That is really the right way to do it but if you want to do it quicker & have the same result the way i told you should be lock quicker

Re: Real Big problem with brake carrir

you just need to take off the top one and slightly loosen the bottom one (hex bolts holding the carrier) and hit the carrier lightly and the rotor will come out

i changed all my rear carrier bolts since i had them out it will make next time waaaay easier

yes i actually bought new bolts from the dealer i figured it would make next time easier too. do you know if the bottom hex bolts are the same size (i know theyre both 8mm) what i mean is like the thickness or length of the screws the same for top and bottom? dealer guy said they looked different, but i checked etka and they seemed the same

im pretty sure they are the same the top one is the one that is dangerous if it is too long it will rub on the rotor

i changed the bolts meaning im not using hex bolts anymore those were a pain in the ass to get out and re-tighten

Re: Real Big problem with brake carrir

They are not the same one is longer than the other. I changed mine last time I did my rotors and pads since I stripped the upper one and had to drill and easy out it. There are two different part numbers for them as well, as they come seperate and not as a pair.

The easiest way to remove the lower carrier bolt is to remove the lower strut bolt and you can push the shock away enough to get a breaker bar with a socket style 8mm or ratchet with cheater bar.

If you still don't have enough room you can take the strut out completely by removing the two small screw that hold the wheel well liner in and undo the yoke that bolts hold the top of the strut and bolts to the car. You will have plenty of room if you do this.

    Good luck

EXACTLY, that is how you get around it. I just did a customers car on here and he had this problem, I believe someone who did it last time messed it up because I did not have the problem with the other bolt... Either way I bought new bolts just in case
