Please help me get heat in my A4!

The blend door on my A4 is not opening to let heat through. Audi wants $500 to fix it. It was suggested to me that the blend door can be manualy opened to let heat through and that would give me heat untill i get the money to fix it. Any input on this would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Well they have 12V portable car heaters you could get while you save up to get the heater fixed. I found this doing a google search...
