New Way Of Breaking Into Our Cars!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    IMPORTANT.....

New way criminals are getting into locked cars.

I locked my car --- as I walked away I heard my car door unlock I went back and
Locked my car again three times. I looked around and there were two guys sitting
In a car in the fire lane next to the store. When I looked straight at them they
Did not unlock my car again.
How to lock your car safely

While traveling my son stopped at a roadside park. He came out to his car less
Than 4-5 minutes later and found someone had gotten into his car, and stolen his
Cell phone, laptop computer, GPS navigator briefcase.....you name it .. Called
The police and since there were no signs of his car being broken into- the police
Told him that there is a device that robbers are using now to clone your security
Code when you lock your doors on your car using your key-chain locking device..
They sit a distance away and watch for their next victim. They know you are going
Inside of the store, restaurant, or bathroom and have a few minutes to steal and
    Run.

The police officer said... Be sure to manually lock your car door by hitting the
Lock button inside the car, that way if there is someone sitting in a parking lot
Watching for their next victim it will not be you. When you hit the lock button
On your car upon exiting...it does not send the security code, but if you walk
Away and use the door lock on your key chain- it sends the code through the
Airwaves where it can be be stolen, something totally new to us.

Be aware of this and please pass this note on..look how many times we all lock
Our doors with our keys...just to be sure we remembered to lock them....and bingo
Someone have our code...and whatever was in the car...can be gone.

    Keep safe everyone

this is some bs... pass it on and keep safe everyone!!

I have my turbo timer set up so that I have to manually lock my doors, just like what's suggested.
#1 It keeps the cyl free and moving, so it doesn't bind up the one time my key fob doesn't unlock my doors.
#2 it prevents people from being able to snatch my keyless frequency.

However, if they were smart criminals, most car companies have a set frequency. Once they have one, they can modify that signal for other cars of the same brand.

Some company's frequencies actually cross over sometimes too. For instance, when I was a kid I was at Magic Mountain with my dad, and every time he would unlock the doors to our car, a Ford 2 rows over would set its alarm off. The guy was still at his car too, and was REALLY confused.

Dude at my dad's gym, has an "identical" car to my dad's minus the alloys, every time he locks/unlocks his car the other guys does too.

I had a few issues with OEM Honda's doing the same thing, mostly older cars though. The '96-99 Accords, once in awhile would share the same frequencies for the door locks.

I had one case where two Toyota's parked next to each other did it too, other than that, I haven't seen or heard of them having issues.

I had it with my cheap aftermarket keyless entry on my Camaro too. That unlocked a couple OEM setups too.

    It's all frequencies.

Didn't the use a devise like that in Gone in 60 seconds to steal the Escalade, which was a good many years ago. They scanned the garage door, then when the lady unlocked the suv with the remote.

Even if they grabbed your code, it would be for the lock function. What good is that going to do them? Garage door openers are a different story since it's the same frequency for open/close.

FYI, you cant lock the door inside then shut it. Audi's have a anti "locking key in car" setting. Locking the drivers door when open locks all other but drivers door. You have to manual lock door outside with key. Just a heads up

    Why does it do that?

My TT allows me to lock the car with it running no problem. I just have the ABS light come on and the sensor beeps 3x when I pull the keys out of the ignition.

no this is worse than someone just wanting to steal your car.
this seems wayy easier than stealing a car.. which sucks for the victim

Well I mean, you've got to figure that automakers have been using the same encryption technology for 20 years and it would be only a matter of time before it was cracked or taken advantage of.

Are people ignoring this TRUE statement?? Unless you have somehow recoded your lock system w/ VAG, you driver's side door will remain UNLOCKED

Actually this is old news.... people have been doing that with garage door openers for years as someone stated above....

I just though most cars today had rolling codes and it was no longer really an issue...guess not.

It depends on what wire you splice into to maintain the power to the ECM.

It can be wired with a diode (or a relay) so that you can keep the ECM running and the Keyless system active. I chose to run it so that I can keep everything on. I can leave just about everything on while the TT is running. I don't, but I could. I prefer to use the manual exterior lock as well, it's my failsafe. The hood switch is currently broken, so my car doesn't beep when it locks either. That way I know for sure the doors are locked.

The parking brake sensor is hooked up to the TT and the steering wheel lock still functions when the key is out. I'm not real worried about my car being stolen though. Somebody would have to be really desperate to want a 2-tone, 178+K, 98.5 wrecked A4. Though parted out it's worth more than actual resale.

I've had two weird things with keys:

#1.) I had a work van and ran around with lots of other similar vans. If someone locked their key in the van I would just take my key and stick it into the cylinder and jiggle it for a few minutes until it would open.

#2.) Using my key fob on my 94 Buick Centry (STFU) with a cell phone 100 yards away I could get the lock mechanism to "Move" about 1/2 way over if the person put their cell phone by the car.

FYI, you cant lock the door inside then shut it. Audi's have a anti "locking key in car" setting. Locking the drivers door when open locks all other but drivers door. You have to manual lock door outside with key. Just a heads up
I can lock mine by hitting lock button twice than shutting door. If my keys are in ignition than I cannot lock the door. If I leave car running I can lock it with remote. I never lock door with remote, usually just use the lock button on door.

Re: New Way Of Breaking Into Our Cars!!!

    This is completely true!
For those of you that dont believe it, dont doesnt really matter to most of us on here...
but its not new its actually been used for 3-4 years now... thefts were using it to steal cars in my neighboorhood until they got caught... also why would Clifford come out with Clone-Safe® Code-Hopping® for their alarms if it wasnt possible to clone your security code???
Just get a good alarm where your code is encrypted and clone safe and you really wont have to worry about people stealing your security code...
I got a Clifford and couldnt be happier...
    Just my 2 cents...
