    Battery Install???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So after 4 coil packs going bad... My car is telling me that the battery is dead - which might explain why the coil packs have blown because of the fluctuation in Voltage...

So I have a replacement, but some magical Audi engineer decided that Allen bolts are best to secure the battery... Also there is a metal brace that is in the way which has to be removed. Anyone know the size of the allen bolt?

    thanks,
    Joe

No, but i DO know if you don't have an extension to reach the bolt, it's a major pain in the ass.

    Re: Battery Install???

its easy.. just undo the two allen bolts on the passenger side part of that bar.... then put a large flathead screwdriver where the bolts came out and pry the bar out of the way a bit... then put an extension on your allen socket and you will be able to reach the bolt that secures the battery.

I did my battery on sunday... took no time

    Re: Battery Install???

I used socket wrench with a 6mm allen head on it.... it's actually kind of a bitch...

Everyone that jumps online is a pro "shits so easy" well when you don't have any tools or space to work in and it's 27 degrees out it aint easy...

I could tell you I mold tubular carbon fiber race car frames in my basement, doesn't make it so.

    Re: Battery Install???

    I just changed my battery and I'm pretty sure it's a 6mm allen/Hex.
The easiest way I could describe, although a little more time consuming is to remove the 5 bolts (6mm allen) that holds your front strut tower brace in place(2 on each side and one in the middle). With it out of the way I used a socket w/ the hex bit attachment to get to the one bolt (bracket) that holds the battery in.

    Re: Battery Install???

I did swap in a Optima red top.. which is much smaller and weighs less... I then put some double sided heavy duty velcro on the bottom then tightend the bracket down best I could...

the battery can be removed in under 10 minutes.. i did it outside last sunday in michigan.. its not difficult. you only need to remove the two bolts on the strut tower brace on the passenger side, then you use a flat head to pry the strut tower bar towards the battery, which will give you enough room to get your 6mm hex socket (with an extension) onto the one hex bolt that supports the battery. a couple turns and that is out too.

3 bolts cant take more than 5 minutes.
