    HID questions??????

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    '03 1.8T q w/ OEM bi-xenons....

my left headlight sometimes flickers and the odd time I get the good old dipped headlight code. I have had this over the last year (very odd, 1once a month) might be on its way out

Question... what will need to be replaced if it burns out? can I do it myself and is it a PITA?

Someone told me you need to do both?

Also just doesnt seem that there as bright as they used to be, they seem more white than the usual blue tint?

How can I make my fogs look similar and what bulbs do the fogs take?

I know, I know alot of Q's but when it comes to electrics im friggin lost.......

    Re: HID questions??????

Well your ballast might be overheating. But usually, when it does it, it shouldnt last for too long after that.
As for the fogs, you can always put hid in them.

    Re: HID questions??????

The HID hardware, is really very reliable. From your description, it's certain that the flickering is from a loose connection somewhere. The most common locaton for a loose connection causing this symptom, is at the ballast power input connector. The terminal on each wire, has a curved contact spring that is displaced when the pin on the ballast side, is inserted into the wire terminal on the connector side. The curved spring contact frequently is to loose when the connector is engaged.
To fix, carefully extract a wire terminal one at a time, and using a needle, carefully bend the curved contact to have more curvature, to tighten the contact with the pin inserted.
While the headlights are removed, examine the other wiring harness connector terminals between the ballast and the HID ignitor also. The contacts must not be bent or mis shaped, they can be damaged easily so any terminal contacts that are bent out of alignment, can be the cause of loose connections.
