    Re: Ebay universal O2 sensor

I bought both of my sensors from that guy. They do not come with connectors, but you can easily just splice them into the existing harness and wrap them with shrinking tube. The sensors are brand new units, and I do not know why they come with no connectors. I did not buy the universal ones though. When I purchased mine, his inventory was more surplus than it is in it's current state. He has the primary 02 sensor that I used still in his inventory, but he only has a universal one for the secondary sensor currently. I bought Bosch non-universal ones for the front and rear for ~$85 combined. Can't beat that price.

The thing with these are, you have to solder them in, which could introduce extra resistance, which in turn can cause incorrect readings.

    Re: Ebay universal O2 sensor

Why do you have to solder. Why not just cut the 4 wires twist them together and put a tube of shrink wrap over it. Sure its more work than a connector but it should work fine.

^That is what I had done to mine. I did not install them myself, as I had my exhaust installed at the same time and told my mechainc to just install them at the same time. This is the techique he used and I have had no issues thus far. Had them on for maybe 8 months now.

If they were that sensitive to resistance they would never work

They send the ecu air fuel info as voltage readings, more resistance would reduce amperage not voltage. As long as you are not overheating the wire and making it brittle the connection should be as good as new and wouldn't affect amperes either. However I would only buy a factory part for something of this nature due to aftermarket part quality problems. I work with a guy with a weighted quarter it lands on heads 90% of the time if I was betting on it the damn thing would hit tales.

solder and heatshrink is the next best thing to having the connector. crimping them is slightly worse then soldering, and twisting them together and electrical taping them is the most half ass way. actually no- wire nuts are the most half ass way.

    Re: Ebay universal O2 sensor

i was taught that crimp connectors and shrink tubing are better than soldering and shrink tubing. reason being is because if the wire gets hot, it can remelt the solder and cause a loss of connection where as a crimp has a mechanical connection as well.

    Re: Ebay universal O2 sensor

i suppose that could happen, though the standard 63/37 tin/lead solder thats used for electrical soldering melts around 375* F. that kind of heat would melt most plastic sheathing. i guess the best way would be to use those crimp connectors that are lined with solder so after you crimp the wire, you heat it up and it melts into the wires giving a nice connection, then heatshrink it.

You might just have to search for a universal 4 or 5 pin, whichever year model your car is.
