    Help! steering noise. rough start.

It snowed in pa the other day. I did take my a4 out and play alittle. (keep in mind I baby the car 99% of the time.) the next day when I got in my car and turned the wheel it now makes noise. It sounds like a pump noise or squeal. I am hoping it is just my power steering fluid but haven't had a chance to check yet. My car is now also starting rougher and rougher. and seems to be alittle bit noisier at low speeds.

    1. has anyone had these problems?
    2. Any ideas?

2002 A4 1.8tqm 61k - car is in great shape other then current issue.

please help if you can. I may just end up taking it to my mechanic just wanted to get an Idea of what I am looking at. (sweet repair bills just in time for christmas )

Sounds like the power steering pump. This seems to happen often with our cars. High steering wheel angle and high RPM (like donuts in the show) thrashes the pump and or steering rack. Check the level of the power steering fluid, check for any leaks you might have on the steering rack. Let us know what you find.

It takes, literally less than 1 minute to check your power steering fluid. That includes the time it takes to open your hood. Buy some hydraulic fluid, refill it (it's low) and hope that it's a very slow leak.

yea I know how to check the fluid. I was curious how much it would be to replace the pump.

Looks like the pump is a little over $200: Here I think there is a DIY on here somewhere for it. From what I remember it was not that bad.
