Use DICE Electronics. I think they have a rep on here. Great, charges it, nice mount, easy install, easy to access. Good Luck!

Do these Ipod kits come with the keys to get the radio out of the dash? If not, where/how do you do that?

No, you can order them through the dealer (or they might let you use theirs if they are cool). There are numerous places online you can get them as well.

Do you still have the factory head unit? If you do, I bought an AUDI OEM Ipod adapter brand new in the box of of Ebay for $75. I'm not sure if the others are controlled through the head unit, but the OEM kit is. It allows you to plug it in and keep it in the glove box. It will keep the battery charged as well. Just a thought.

The DICE unit is great, but doesn't currently work with the iPhone 3G. Supposedly they are coming out with a new cable to accommodate control / charging with the 3G in a week or so. Don't know if that is an issue for you, just FYI. The good part of this is that DICE does have good support and upgrades for their products.

One last stupid question (I am not a radio guy at all)....

Can I just swing into the dealership, have them pop my radio out and then drive off to install my ipod hook up? Do I need the keys to put the radio back in, or does it just "snap" back in?

I couldn't find any places online to buy the keys...and I want to do this over the weekend.

You don't need the keys to pop the radio back in so just make sure everything is connected and working then you can pop it back into it's place.

This seems like the cheapest way to go. Would I face any problems attempting to connect the OEM adapter to my RNS-E?

I've heard bad things about the audi OEM adapter... there is a thread in here somewhere. I use the DICE adapter and it works great:

Check out the carpros ipod website. It does work for the 3G, you have to opt for the 5v cable upgrade.

I've also heard that there will be a backwards compatible cable for us current DICE owners to be able to charge our iphones. Should be coming out on Dec 12th. YES! Pandora radio in traffic is awesome!

if you have a cassette palyer in your car go with the ipod cassette adapter 15$) sounds just as good as any ipod ready unit.

    Save yourself the headache.

I had the dice unit and wasnt impressed so I returend it. "Initailizing" screen takes too long and is completely buggy. Not sure if they fixed that by now or not.

Also if you do decide to take it somewhere dont go to best buy they completely destroyed my m3 interior.
I guess you get what you pay for so go somwhere expspensive.

    I couldn't disagree more.

I've had the tape deck one...it sucks.

The DICE unit that I bought after following advice from this thread is FANTASTIC. Can still use my steering wheel controls and everything.

I did the install tonight in about 15mins. The hardest part was getting the radio out, but I just stopped by a local stereo shop and the guy popped it out for free (I gave him $20 anyhow, just as a thank you tip).

I HIGHLY recommend this mod. I wish I had done it sooner. My Ipod is tucked away in the glove box (I just ran the wire to there and stuck it through one of the pre-punched out holes).

Do any of these solutions allow you to see artist/track/etc., on the RNS-E and/or DIS? I'd love to use my iPhone 3G (ideally charging while plugged in) with steering wheel controls and output to the screens in my car.

The unit I bought for ~$140 is supposed to, but I have the crappy stock deck. I plan on getting the RNS-E soon, so I'll let you know.

As it stands, my "one line" just displays like the CD...track XX and min/secs. No info.

Hmmmm...okay. Maybe I'll email the folks at Dice and ask if/when an adapter like this will see the light of day.

EDIT: Just emailed Dice about this. I'll let you know if I hear anything useful.

BS. I have the crappy 15$ cassette and I wanna throw it out the window everyday I use it!Makes a horrible feedback noise(Not always..Just on the songs you really like.UGH!), especially hooked to an Iphone.

There is no track artist info in the RNS-E with the dice unit. The dice unit does it for other cars and systems, its actually the RNS-E that won't allow for it.

Okay, I heard back from Dice. They currently have an offering that lets you use the iPhone 3G with the RNS-E including using the steering wheel/RNS-E to perform simple navigation, but it doesn't show artist/track text AND it can't be used with satellite radio. They're planning to release a newer version that does work with satellite and does display text on the nav screen in April with the same price of ~$169.99.

They offered to notify me via email when it's released, so I'll update here when I get info. If it's as proposed, I'm pretty sure I'll be getting one!

That's strange. I have an RNS-E and Satellite radio. DICE works fine... unless they mean the iphone controls. I haven't tried changing tracks on the iphone with my steering wheel controls yet. Ill try it later. When I bought mine I remember that I had to get a specific kit that allows for the satellite radio to still work. Maybe they are talking about a fully compatabl iphone version.

Unless you have a glove box CD changer, you'll want this one:

It's noted in the footnotes on the link you provided.

If vehicle has factory XM/Sirius the Enfig AUDI SAT PASS 1 or Enfig AUDI SAT PASS 2 will be needed to keep the satellite radio. If vehicle is equipped with factory satellite radio and your car has a CD changer connection in the glove box you can use the Dice Electronics i-VW-T to keep your satellite radio without using a Enfig sat pass.
This also disables the use of the CD changer.

    Re: Ipod for B6 S4

From what I gathered in the product info of the website first listed in this thread, those of us with Nav and Sat radio cannot retain the Sat radio with the Dice product. I want my iPod hooked up, but not at the cost of my Sat radio.

Is this what is supposed to be updated in April? I wouldn't mind losing the CD changer for the iPod, but is that necessary? Or is there a way to not sacrifice anything for the sake of the iPod connection?

    Thanks!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the sat can be retained by using the "pass through" harness (see note 1 at the bottom of the first link):

You don't need the sat pass if the CD changer is in the glove box and you get the VW kit I posted earlier

Did you see my question above?

I have CD changer in glove box, with Navigation, and sirius, but I dont plan on ever actually setting that up.

I really dont need my CD changer. Should I get that VW kit you mentioned above? How hard is install? I dont need to remove radio, do I?

Yes, that kit worked for me and I didn't plan on using the sirius, although I eventually did and it worked out. You don't have to remove the radio, but you do have to remove the CD changer to get to the back of it to install the unit. 2 radio keys will do. It took me 10 minutes and I SUCK at these sort of things.
