Wanted to get a GSG pipe, but heard about a few fitment issues with the Carbonio and didn't want to spend 300 bucks, so....I made my own.
what you need:
1. 18" 2.75" 2mm 90 degree pipe : $15.50
cxracing.com
2. 2.75" straight silicon coupler : $5 (MAF connection)
3. 2.75" to 2.5" silicon coupler : $5 (Engine connection)
4. 4 Clamps : $5
5. 2 Hours
tools:
-hacksaw
-sand paper
-socket
-compressed air
-sharpie
-brut force
So after taking off the OEM pipe (hardest part of the whole thing) i covered my intake hole with a towel. I just eyed the OEM pipe and the new pipe, marked and cut, with lots of room to spare. Every time I sanded, used compressed air, and cleaned thoroughly (like 5 times each time)...last thing I wanted was shaving going somewhere i didn't want too. I probably cut it 3 or 4 times on each side, alot of it was cut off as you can see. I found the easiest way to install it once you get a perfect fit, was to clamp each coupler w/o the pipe to the engine and MAF first, then attach the pipe to the MAF and engine and clamp. Looks pretty good and i have taken her out for a couple 20 mile joyrides came back, immeditley opened up the hood and felt the pipe...honestly thought it would be a lot hotter than it was?? dont know if thats a good thing, but atleast it looks great
if i would do anything different I would powder coat the pipe black and use red couplers...both easily changed
BTW, GSG thanks for the idea...
Hopefully in a couple weeks (thanks to AudiWxGuy) I will know the MAF temp realtime on my IPHONE...I recently purchased ElmCAN®II WLAN-INT. check it out at
