Talking had the mod bug this week...

Wanted to get a GSG pipe, but heard about a few fitment issues with the Carbonio and didn't want to spend 300 bucks, so....I made my own.

    what you need:
    1. 18" 2.75" 2mm 90 degree pipe : $15.50
    cxracing.com
    2. 2.75" straight silicon coupler : $5 (MAF connection)
    3. 2.75" to 2.5" silicon coupler : $5 (Engine connection)
    4. 4 Clamps : $5
    5. 2 Hours

    tools:
    -hacksaw
    -sand paper
    -socket
    -compressed air
    -sharpie
    -brut force

So after taking off the OEM pipe (hardest part of the whole thing) i covered my intake hole with a towel. I just eyed the OEM pipe and the new pipe, marked and cut, with lots of room to spare. Every time I sanded, used compressed air, and cleaned thoroughly (like 5 times each time)...last thing I wanted was shaving going somewhere i didn't want too. I probably cut it 3 or 4 times on each side, alot of it was cut off as you can see. I found the easiest way to install it once you get a perfect fit, was to clamp each coupler w/o the pipe to the engine and MAF first, then attach the pipe to the MAF and engine and clamp. Looks pretty good and i have taken her out for a couple 20 mile joyrides came back, immeditley opened up the hood and felt the pipe...honestly thought it would be a lot hotter than it was?? dont know if thats a good thing, but atleast it looks great

if i would do anything different I would powder coat the pipe black and use red couplers...both easily changed

BTW, GSG thanks for the idea...

Hopefully in a couple weeks (thanks to AudiWxGuy) I will know the MAF temp realtime on my IPHONE...I recently purchased ElmCAN®II WLAN-INT. check it out at
http://www.devtoaster.com/products/rev/index.html The app is taking them a bit longer to launch becuase of Apple but I wanted to make sure I had the unit so when it drops I have what I need. Check out there youtube videos...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRfLS6jkBMY. Once i get it i will let post videos and let you guys know.

How hard was it to remove the MAF from the rubber hose .. i installed my carbonio last night and it was a b*tch .. !!! ..

Do you have meassurements of the pipe .. me and my friends just bought these pipes and they should be coming in .. just wondering how much you cut off each side?

Re: had the mod bug this week...

yes it is a bitch. I end up taking the MAF and hose off to remeove the MAF. I used a small flat head screwdriver and pried the hose off.

well kinda hard to say...i probably took 4/5" off both sides, pipe now is about 8.5"....you just have to play with it a bit, just take little by little, test, and cut more if needed. I ended up having to prop the carbonio up a bit when i put the pipe on, but all feel into place nicely.

Ye, because i just bought the carbonio and ordered the piping and should have it this week :) .. the pipe you bought is about 18inchs long .. and with the rubber hose everything to so tight .. i wonder with the aluminum pipe everything is just there with no pressure on anything .. for example .. the rubber hose pushes my carbonio a bit so it was a tight fit ..

I know what you mean.... the aluminum pipe on mine does the same thing now, its a snug fit so it pushes on the carbonio up and back a bit like the OEM hose did.

what made you go with a 2.75" instead of like an even 2.5" or 3"?
how did you get the pipe measurements? how do you know if its getting enough air or too much..?

Has it thrown any codes or CELs?

I went 2.75" because that's the size of GSG's pipe and they didnt have any air issues...its also the size of the MAF...so i just figured. I would think if anything it would have too much air, i dont see if there arent any gaps how you could possibly lower the air intake...Although I was ready to put my old one back on if I threw a code....4 days now and still all good.

will give more detailed readouts of air temp in the next week or two hopefully.

thanks, there was weird light outside at the time...i think they work really well with each other

they look black till you get 10 feet away and then you notice the cf, they are fairly subtle...i was going to paint my housings black too, but I found these first..either is a good way to go on ibis ti's

my next exterior mod is black vinyl roof to try compliment everything nicely:)

good luck with it, if you have any questions once you get them, installing them, shoot me a PM.

Sorry to bring this thread back from hell but I've been looking to do this mod and have a few questions you guys might be able to answer.

I priced out all the parts at Cxracing.com and they're same price as apatchin states except the 4 clamps are now $10 instead of $5, making everything $35.50 before tax & ship. I checked cxracing's ebay store and they seemed to have the same kit listed but with the pipe cut to the correct length.

    eBay link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/05-08...#ht_4449wt_939

eBay shows 6 sold so I was wondering if anyone on here bought this kit. If so, how is the fitment? From the DIY above, I thought we need a 2.75" to 2.5" silicone reducer for the pipe to fit onto compressor side. But pictures on auction shows straight 2.75" silicone couplers.

Again, sorry for bringing an old thread back but I didn't want to create a new thread.
