A quick heads-up for those abusing the system via loopholes and bogus reps. We have already nabbed a few of you, and action is being taken towards your account and its ability to give rep. The guilty ones know who they are, and if you don't, you will soon.

Let's act like adults here, and use the system properly. Those that can't, will need to leave. There are plenty of teen hangout sites that you can go to instead.

I have a question....

I was under the impression that the rep system was a way for members to give thanks and/or acknowledge a "good" post OR disagree/punish a "bad" one. It should be up to the members(not you) to make these decisions right?

But since there are people like me 'abusing' the system, I guess it's up to the admins to read through EVERY SINGLE rep given and decide whether or not it was a deserving post?

What is the reason for keeping the rep system if it's that much hassle?

This whole rep system is a little too serious, IMO. I understand where the moderators are coming from, definitely, but at the same time, I think they are getting a little overbearing. I feel like in high school with an angry principal. It's just a forum.

At first I didn't care for it, but the admins applied the rep system for a reason... Some people abused that system, and received TOO MUCH REP, OH NOOOEES.

Admins cleared everyone's points.

Then the admins disable rep from GCC, and other off-topic areas.

Then anyone "caught" giving bogus reputations will have their reps disabled. Really? Is there some admin with the title "Rep Gremlin" who just constantly monitors reps given and has to figure out if it's legitimate?

1) Moved to the proper forum.

2) It's the job of the Admins and Mods to keep this community civil and running properly. As I said in the post quoted up top, if someone doesn't like how we run things then there are plenty of other options out there.

So no it's not really a hassle, but it's certainly not something the Mods need to spend their time dealing with. I'm sure everyone here can understand and respect that, that is if you really care about the AZ community and truly want to be here.

The point is that it's Anthony's forum -- he strives to make it a place for all of us to talk about cars and have a good time. If he feels the rep system is/was being abused, then it's his choice to change it. Lets all just move on, no?

while I'm not a fan of over policing, I have to agree. I used to post on a different forum an the mods there were nuts. They were all complete a holes and really rude to anyone. Anytime you disagreed with them you were banned for varying amounts of time. One time they life banned a guy...and for good measure banned all his friends/family/acquantinces on the forum too!!

So in retrospect, the Mods may be exerting a little too much censorship/power in some way here, but they are by no means being rude about it.

IMO the only place that the rep feature really got used alot was GCC. I don't think people use it enough in the car sections for it to actually be useful.

Correction, in GCC it got overused. It was used plenty in the Main Model-Line Forums.
